What's the most away fans you can remember us taking away?
Hull was not bad, and york in the fac. I did not enjoy so much the friday night game at sheffield united ( apart from the drink before at Kings Cross) and Carlisle was a shlap.

Great away days of the past
a good read ! Alan Birchenhall was underated and i would question Hudsons loyalty.

yes i remember there were quite a few jocks at that game, but I thought that the year before was better as it was unkown territory and that goes for all the away games of 75 76 as you only got the real hard core going because we were not a good side

Arsenal away in 77 was the best we had away but also Bolton 77, Spurs 77, Sunderland 85, Derby fac 83, Leeds 83, Forest76, Blackpool both games in the 70s were not bad. Best for quality not quantity was Forest 1975 76, the special was only half full but.;;

scariest ground
at least you are here to tell the tale ! I remember when the herberts set light to the train coming back from Luton in 75 and having to get off at Cricklewood. It must have been scary for the shopkeepers of Luton that day.

scariest ground
i stood in the CBL that day and near the end of the game a few Chelsea went and stood with their Millwall mates, mind you we were only the second team to go in there.

scariest ground
yes there was no animosity when we were not playing and went there a lot especially in the season that they nearly went up, mind you, you would have struggled to find a tear up at the old den in the old days as no-one went there. Having said that, the game at our place in 77 was a bit tasty, especially afterwards !

scariest ground
i remember that the row started between arsenal and tottenham, everybody else at first seemed to be ok. The only firm that I have really seen Chelsea team up with is Glasgow rangers, and in days of old see a few faces in the north bank when the arsenal were playing spurs

How right you are Hutch, the old bill would not let us all on the tube so everyone started turning on each other outside Kings Cross.

scariest ground
west ham and tottenham used to team up quite often in the mid seventies and appeared at Orient when we played them. I remember they left before the end, and a big mob of Chelsea looking for them afterwards
-
scariest ground
do you rememberthe league cup final days when for once all the London clubs would join up to form an alliance to do the northerners, i came back from an away game at Derby to see the biggest mob of my life at St Pancras, with Chelsea, Millwall, arsenal etc

scariest ground

the twins were ginger i presume ? Anybody remember Kojak ? Derby scary ?! Liverpool and Everton yes, especially the night games, i remember that you used to be wary of getting cut and your clothes nicked if you happened to get stranded

scariest ground
when i say it was on top at whl, that was until 75, strange that we never once tried to take the shelf which was where their main mob where. But from 77 it was plain sailing, although when i speak to some of them they don't see it like that
-
scariest ground
i agree, spurs away especially in the early 70s was on top, they would always be in the paxton ready to have a pop.
-
scariest ground
could you include Forest in that list ?

scariest ground
definitley west ham in the 70s and the old den at millwall

another classic chelsea v arsenal match
never thought that there was too much animosity between arsenal and chelsea because of their hatred of tottenham. I remember one game where the half time scores where put up and spurs were losing against sunderland both sets of supporters in the shed started chanting sunderland ! Together
-
another classic chelsea v arsenal match
homerton has got a point, between 1969 and 1973 arsenal took liberties in the shed, however they got surrounded in the shed and left early in 74. But it was payback time in the league cup two years later and then the boxing day massacre in 77 !

Still one of my fav games.
the best battle in gate 13 was against west ham 83 84 season, i also remember leeds in 82 where chelsea had a massive mob
