Backbiter Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 A magical day during a very grim period. Being in the Shed was incredible that day - packed out well over an hour before kick off. We had a crap team with several good players and a top manager in John Neal, who tore his hair at the players' absurd inconsistency/ lack of professionalism. Droy was the star that day, but Pates did a fantastic job on Souness, and Fillery really showed his class in midfield. The names Nutton, Mayes, Hales and Rhoades-Brown do not bring back too many happy memories, it has to be said.
Backbiter Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 was not the 78 4-2 better or even 1997 4-2 ? Yes - the 4-2s were both absolute classics. The 2-0 was still pretty damn good.
mad_mac Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 After watching that in the choices after there is a 76-77 match against Milwall. Even back then we were playing 4-3-3
secbastia Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 and in 78 and 82 the scousers were reigning european champions and also we beat them in a league game 3-1 in 78 not long after the cup game just for good measure typical chelsea in those days
secbastia Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 in that millwall game many players said that they had never played in a hostile atmosphere like it, that is probably why we were 3-0 down at half time
ddrblue Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 in that millwall game many players said that they had never played in a hostile atmosphere like it, that is probably why we were 3-0 down at half time was this not the liverpool game where the scouse fans got smashed all over both inside and mainly outside SB
Bobbywoodhogan Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 They showed this on Chelsea classics on ESPN classics
secbastia Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 the 1982 game there was a lot of violence in the north stand where liverpool were attacked and there were plenty of photos in the papers about it.
bluegraham Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 my dad travelled over from waterford ireland for that game without a ticket,he thought like he usual did get one on the day,boy was he wrong not a ticket to be got so he went down to the players bar a nd said it to he's friend breda lee,so she brought him to a ticket tout and in the end he got hes ticket. he said that the atmosphere was crazy
secbastia Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 i don't know which was the better atmosphere 78 or 82 or even 97 but all three were pretty special. I would plump for 97.
bluegraham Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 i don't know which was the better atmosphere 78 or 82 or even 97 but all three were pretty special. I would plump for 97. yes 97 was great we only had 3 sides of the ground that da with the shed end not finihed yet, what a game
secbastia Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 graham, all 4 sides were open but a temporary stand at the shed end, but correct me if i am wrong
Bobbywoodhogan Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 No, the Shed End was a building site: That was an unbelivable game I thought for sure when we were 2-0 down it was all over but wasn't to be
waldron Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 97 was amazing, but we had the beginnings of a pretty good side - Zola, Vialli, Hughes etc. 78 was legendary because Clive Walker gave Phil Neal a roasting - I never ever rated Phil Neal , he was crap. 82 was unbelievable because we were dross - I mean Peter Rhoades-Brown ? To show how good we were I think we lost to Orient in the next round.
dkw Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 God I love watching that 4-2, even more so because it reminds me I was in a boozer in Liverpool surrounded by dippers with just one mate (all be it a massive mate who is also a Chelsea fan) We got dogs abuse when 2-0 down and gave it back and more when 4-2 up. The only reason we got out alive is because my mate is a seriously big, very angry animal of a man. Was hilarious when one dipper walked towards him shouting all kinds then when my mate stood up the look of terror in his eyes had me almost wetting myself laughing.
secbastia Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 we lost to orient in 78 at home after drawing away and spurs in 82 after being 1-0 up at half time

Peckham Blue Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 was this not the liverpool game where the scouse fans got smashed all over both inside and mainly outside SB Even the benches ran across the pitch to get at the Liverpool fans. That was after getting attacked from across the railway lines and from the regular North Standers. Years of frustration of cowardly attacks in Liverpool, it was payback time.
bluegraham Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 graham, all 4 sides were open but a temporary stand at the shed end, but correct me if i am wrong no sorry your wrong unless the cranes behind the shed where in full voice lol.
Peckham Blue Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 graham, all 4 sides were open but a temporary stand at the shed end, but correct me if i am wrong The Shed End had hoardings behind the goal.
secbastia Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 i remember that i had a few light ales that day, the cranes were in excellent voice
