Chelsea Football Club to bring fans latest news via Twitter

by Ed Kemp, marketingmagazine.co.uk 02-Apr-09, 16:00

LONDON - Chelsea Football Club has lauched its own Twitter account giving fans news and behind the scenes observations.

The microblog is written under the name of the team mascot Stamford the Lion, who reports from the club's training ground in Cobham as well as from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's communication and public affairs Director, Simon Greenberg, said: ‘We want our Twitter to have its own tangible personality, a little bit of mystery and be fun. Our mascot Stamford the Lion seemed the obvious choice because Stamford's identity has always been a very closely guarded secret and the origin of our "tweets" will also be.

‘Hopefully people will want to follow what Stamford is doing and seeing. What we can guarantee is that the mixture of content will come from the heart of the club, and be real, from breaking news to day-to-day inane routine, which is what makes this form of communication so compelling', he added.

Never been on Twatter myself - think Ill stick with this place

As far as I know, its another Facebook/ Myspace.. theyre all the same to be honest. And I doubt any news would be on twitter before its on either this or the official cheslea sight. So i'll stick to those ;)

Twitter looks pointless to me and looks although its a perfect place for people to spam websites. We get enough sh*t in our inboxes without knowing that your friend 'tweeted' some site.

I can't see Chelsea giving official news on there before their own website, so not too sure why their even going Twitter.

They are on it because it is one of the fastest growing social media sites and i am guessing Chelsea will put info on it shortly after it is put on the main website, as the whole point of it is to be constantly up-to-date!

I'm worried that Stamford's paws may be too big to hit the right keys, and consequently we might get vastly different messages than intended.
