Following this week's triumph, I have tried to determine the 11 most successful chelsea players of all time, defined by honours they acquired whilst on our books.

Points have been appointed accordingly:

Winning the world cup: 6 points

Winning a continental cup (e.g. Euro / Africa's etc): 5 points

Winning the Champions League: 4 points

Winning the EPL: 3 points

Winning any other Euro cup: 2 points

Winning a domestic cup: 1 point

Super cups and Community shields don't count

On this basis, my first stab at an 11 is this:

...............................................Cech (10).............................................

Essien (6)...................LeBouef (11)...,.Terry (11)....................Desailly (6)

.............................................Makalele (9)..........................................

..............Lampard (10)............Deschamps (6)..................Wise (5).........

.............................................Drogba (10)............................................

The water carrier was still on our books when France won Euro2000 (with Desailly) and JT was on the bench for the 2000 FA cup.

Carlo is also on 10 points but achieved many of those as a bench-warmer so has the no.1 place in the dug-out

Others on 5 points (by my reckoning): Zola, DiMatteo, A Cole

On 4 points: Hughes and Petrescu.

Anyway, it goes to show that if you compile a side according to these rules then you get:

1. A very conservative midfield

2. Not much width

3. A high % of frenchies

Anyone else got a really convoluted means of distracting themselves for a morning?

Wouldnt Duff, Joe Cole, Gallas, Geremi, Bridge ,Paulo and Riccy have more points than Essien, Deschamps, Desailly and Wisey ? Unless im missing something in the credentials. Robert Huth too i think.

It would also be good to do this not taking into account any International honours, showing just stuff won with Chels. But im quite busy at work today!

All I can say is that I slept very badly last night and am not running on full...

That revised XI then...

..................................................Cech (10)...............................................

Paulo (8).....................LeBoeuf (11)........Terry (11)........................Gallas (7)

..................................................Maka (9)................................................

Duff (7)................Lampard (10)..............J Cole (8).......................Robben (7)

..................................................Drogba (10).............................................

On the bench:

Carlo (10)

Riccy (7)

Eidur (7)

Deschamps (6)

Desailly (6)

Which makes for a good team but a dull thread since only beefy doesn't come from the last five years.

Sorry everyone

Is Desailly really only on six?

He won 2 CL's with Marseille and Milan. That should count for something even if not on our books

Marcel won Euro2000 whilst on our books and the 2000 FA Cup. He first played for us in August 98 immediately after winning the World Cup. that was his lot whilst signed to us

Yes but no but yes but etc...

You could put a team together consisting of a bunch of players who achieved loads whilst not at CFC but for me that's a different debate - you'd have to incorporate people who came here to retire, for instance.

The list would be impressive (on paper):

Gullit / Vialli / Deschamps / Weah / Hughes / Laudrup / Casiraghi / Sutton (!) / Ferrer / Panucci etc

Oops, my mistake. I thought he was with us when he won the World Cup. ;)
