Which youngsters deserves the chance?

Featured Replies

With the "age-issue" we have to look for younger players this summer, but we should also promote some of our own young players! Who do you think we should give the chance next season?

My opinion:

Promote:

Stoch

Mancienne

Bertrand

Cork

Sinclair

Give the chance:

Mellis

Tejera

Kakuta

Might have forgotten someone..

Di Santo and Rajckovic out on loans, but should also get their chances!

It depends on what you mean by promote. If you mean that they should see the first 16 occasionally then that ups the numbers a bit but if you actually mean that we make a real effort to ensure they make a decent number of appearances to try and enhance their development then I would limit it to Mancienne, Stoch and Di Santo (if he doesn't go out on loan).

To be honest even three players being pushed forward is a hell of a lot for one season.

I don't think Cork has a realistic chance next season due to thenumber of players ahead of him in the pecking order. You would think the fact we only have one recognised left back would mean Bertrand might have more of a shout but I don't think we will go into the new season with only Ashley Cole as a possible left back (and we also have Ferreira and Ivanovic as possible options) so I don't see Bertrand getting anywhere near the first team squad.

Sinclair I think may well leave this summer, He has been sent out on loan a hell of a lot of times now and his impact whilst out on loan has been somewhat hit and miss. However we should remmber he is only 20, He just seems to be a little older as he has been with us since he was 16.

With my patchy understanding of the youth setup, I will give it a go

-Stoch and Mancienne I would like to see play decent/moderate roles in the first team. I think we really screwed Stoch because he turned in an excellent performance last year and wasnt really rewarded for it. I think he is more than capable of being an excellent fourth option at wing behind Malouda/Cole/a new signing, and we can use his pace against tired defenses. Mancienne I just think is ready and his pace and youth would be a real addition to the squad

-FDS and Kakuta I would like to see play bit part roles or go out on loan. It might not be fair of me to say that, but I think Kakuta is ready for some first team action, and I would rather hand him a start here or there than lose another promising youngster. FDS didnt impress me last year, but had a great attitude. If he is willing to stay, and occasionally make it into the squad, lets do it. Look at a player like macheda. Came out of nowhere to save the Mancs season.

-Sinclair, I too, think is done here. And I thought we had gotten rid of Tejera for good, this summer.

-Rajkovic excites me, but I know nothing about him, and we are so rife with defenders as is. Id like him out on loan picking up valuable playing time.

-Mellis, Cork and Bertrand I couldnt really say one way or another.

for me the best prospects are bruma (who is a superb central defender and only about 16), mellis, van aarnholt (mainly because as loz says we are lacking in the left back position so he may have more opportunity to progress), cork is a fantastic player but im not sure if hes good enough to get into our team. the standout player is kakuta, he really looks the business and could be as good as he wants to be. ive no idea how carlo deals with cup matches in italy and how he will use the carling cup and fa cup early rounds. the problem is they are the best opportunity for a trophy in his first year and im not sure he can afford to play a load of kids, like fergie and wenger can.

I think FDS, Stoch, Kakuta and Bertrand should get a chance this season.

FDS - played about 50mins all season, so it's hard to judge, but he seems to like being at Chelsea (see FA Cup celebrations!) so he should get the odd half here and there and an early Carling Cup round starting place.

Stoch - Played about 20mins all season, and impressed me a lot. Certainly deserves a big chance. Agree with WW regarding the 4th choice winger option. With about 20mins left in a 1-1 draw, he should be introduced to bring some life into the game. Another one for the Carling Cup.

Kakuta - Seen him play for the reserves a few times this season, and I really believe this guy is the business. He has amazing skill, pace and good awareness too. The only issue at the moment is his injury, and the fact that Stoch is there too. There's no doubt Kakuta has the talent, but at the moment, it'll be one or the other, and Stoch is pipping it so far.

Bertrand - Plainly, left back cover. He's another that's impressed me in the reserves too. Looks a very solid and pacy left back.
