Posted August 11, 200915 yr Everton have turned down a formal transfer request from Joleon Lescott. The defender, currently on international duty with England, has been the subject of two bids from Manchester City in recent weeks. The player has subsequently submitted a written request to leave the Club which manager David Moyes immediately rejected. "I have always said that we are not selling any players and that hasn't changed," said Moyes. Everton have turned down offers of £15m and £18m from Mark Hughes' Manchester City for the experienced central defender. The 26-year-old, who returned to action for the Blues in Friday night's 2-1 victory over Malaga at Goodison after a minor hip injury, is currently with Fabio Capello's England squad preparing for Wednesday night's friendly against Holland. He was signed by David Moyes from Wolves in the summer of 2006 and put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Everton last season. His current deal runs until the summer of 2012. He has made 142 competitive appearances for Everton. What do you lot think about this protracted transfer? To be honest im getting sick of it in all honesty, but think Moyes is being a right stubborn c**t. The problem we have is that he knows that Lescott will have to stay and perform in order to go to the world cup. I honestly thought they would of crumbled by now but despite already moaning about a lack of money they seem determined to keep a player who is worth no where near twenty million.
August 11, 200915 yr Author Why is Moyes being a stubborn c**t then ? In my opinion, Lescott is not worth twenty million, he seems to have taken it personally that we are after one of their players, publicly lambasting us at every opportunity, even dragging Philip Chuckle out to have a go. But it was ok for them to take Jo on loan for another season without making a payment and only paying 60% of his wages. Didnt see him moaning about that. We have bid top money for a player that cost them 5 million, Moyes is openly winging about a lack of funds and yet he wont accept an insane amount of money for Lescott.(I know he is probably his best player) Now the player has handed in a transfer request and has stated he wants to leave, he has made it public and rejected it. I cant remember a player in recent memory that has had a transfer request rejected that has stayed on and fulfilled their contract. Listening to the Everton fans, they think he should let him go and use the money to strengthen.
August 11, 200915 yr Everton is based around their defence and lescott is a very classy player, i agree that he is not worth 20mil but who knows what players are worth these days the way the transfer market is going. Moyes obviously sees lescott as an integral part of his team and can you blame him for wanting to hold onto him. Citeh are paying ridiculous prices so whose to blame everton (one of the leagues poorest clubs) to hold out for a exceptional offer
August 11, 200915 yr finally a manager says CONTRACT is CONTRACT...nobody held a gun to Lescot's head when he signed for the extra wages and his future. I am glad that it seems that not everybody is for sale.

August 11, 200915 yr I hope times have changed....... if a manager doesn't want to sell you then he doesn't have to....
August 11, 200915 yr I hope times have changed.......if a manager doesn't want to sell you then he doesn't have to.... In world cup year this is true as lescott will have to perform. A defence of bridge, toure, lescott and richards/zabaleta isnt bad at all for citeh
August 11, 200915 yr Why do you want the most bloated squad in the world? Not going into strikers, but in defence you have Richards, Bridge, Toure, Dunne, Onuoha, Zabeleta, Kompany, Garrido, Ben-Haim. 9 players for 4 positions! You have 7 centre backs there - why do you even want Lescott, he's not going to add a huge amount to your team? BTW, the Man City website is very nice! Edited August 11, 200915 yr by jordanl5182

The website is absolutely brilliant. we have our own matchday centre as well with constant updates, radio commentary. All for free. they have also streamed some of the pre season matches free of charge. No advertising on there either. Its state of the art stuff. As for the defense. Dunne, Ben haim are beyond gash. Richards has had a brain transplant, zaba and Kompany are equally good in midfield. Onouha is a bit of a sick note. We need Lescott before we can get rid of some of the sh*te. The first two I mentioned are likely to be out the door.
August 11, 200915 yr But it was ok for them to take Jo on loan for another season without making a payment and only paying 60% of his wages. Didnt see him moaning about that. I forgot all about that, and it certainly makes the war of words between the clubs even more ridiculous. I rate Lescott, highly, but I think he is made to look even better than he is because of the tight system Everton play. IMO 20m pounds is a bit nuts for him, but this is a summer of crazy fees. Ultimately, I think he will move, and Everton will cash in bigtime (for a club with their finances, its a great deal) and probably not miss too much of a beat. Alot of Moyes's reservations must come with knowing City and Everton could be fighting for 4th/5th/6th come the end of the season. The same caution that Arsene Wenger threw to the wind BTW, the Man City website is very nice! I agree, totally. When you compare it to some club websites out there, it blows them away. Nice website, nice kits. Whoever is in charge of marketing and aesthetics at the new City has got it right: keep it simple, stupid Its nice that they are keeping radio commentary free at City. I remember a few years ago you could get Big Blue Radio with Kerry live over the web and then they took that away or made it subscription
August 11, 200915 yr Lescott is so bloody over-rated, go offer some quality player zillions, much more worth your while. If Jagielka weren't injured he'd be better... wonder if Hughes considered him. EDIT: Ha, I meant offer the CLUB zillions for a better player. Not the player... Freudian slip you understand. Edited August 11, 200915 yr by Gem

Freudian slip you understand. fully agree, hes a decent player but not worth anywhere near what city are offering. but that fits in well with the other players they have signed this window, none are good enough to get in utd`s or chelsea side and arent the top players city were hoping for. also bluemoon, why does moyes wanting to keep his player make him a stubborn c**t?

Already answered that above. I dont think he is worth anywhere near what we have offered, but Hughes is hell bent on signing premiership proven players so it looks as though it will be Lescott, Upson or Distin. He wants a left footed CB. Tevez wouldnt get in the United side over Owen? i think Ancelotti would find room for him as well.

August 11, 200915 yr Firstly, having ginger hair and a previous link to Celtic is strong grounds to be a cnut, so I'm with bluemoon on this one. Also Everton are never going to outstrip Liverpool, so that dream is dead in the water. Man City on the other hand have a great chance of leapfrogging Fletcher, Park and co, so I say for that reason, he should sell him. Man City will be more than happy to play second fiddle to us with or without Lescott. But having him may just put them ahead of all that red scum around us.
August 11, 200915 yr Author he wouldnt get in ahead of berbatov or rooney, and he certainly wont get ahead of anelka or drogba. Your right, the fact that they paid 32 million for Berbaflop put paid to any hope Tevez had of playing there. would of been very different had he of accepted their offer though. So your saying that if the formation called for it he wouldnt start at Chelsea when you have cack like Kalou on your books and he starts from time to time? i would say he is a better player than Malouda and he can play out wide in the correct formation.

August 11, 200915 yr Moyes has every right to block the transfer of any of his players if he feels they are important to the clubs progress.
August 11, 200915 yr Echoes of the JT saga here. "We want him, he wants to come, they won't let us have him. Moyes is a stubborn c**t".
August 11, 200915 yr Author Echoes of the JT saga here. "We want him, he wants to come, they won't let us have him. Moyes is a stubborn c**t". Its more like the Barry to Liverpool saga last season. It is evident we want him and evident he wants to leave. Moyes is the only stumbling block. A manager that i imagine will be off to Old Trafford the minute the glazers come calling. The same Moyes that held Everton to Ransom over a new contract this time last year casting doubt on the start to their season. its ok though. St David is saving football.
August 11, 200915 yr It smacks of what clubs were doing to us when we had more money than anyone else. "He's not for sale, we're not letting him leave.........oh you're willing to pay that much...." Moyes is looking after his own interests, he's got a decent defender that you lot want, but he needs to buy more than one player at the moment to improve his squad. He's right to reject your bid because you'll come back in with a bigger offer, he wants excess of £20m - fair enough if you'll pay it then he's done good business, if you wont then so beit, he's got a top defender that as you rightly say has to perform to get in the world cup squad.

August 11, 200915 yr Its more like the Barry to Liverpool saga last season. Right. You mean he's a greedy f**ker who's more interested in money than playing in Europe, and the chances are he'll end up at City at the end of this season. Gotcha!
August 11, 200915 yr Author what a bitter load of old bollocks. hes brought lescot through to be a very good player, and a very important player for his club. what is wrong with him wanting to keep him? you do realise that just because you wanna buy him doesnt mean they have to sell him. He doesnt have to sell him, of course not. But if you were trying to move for a player and said player had put in the request to leave to join you while their manager blocked it constantly, someone as opinionated as yourself would, im pretty positive, wouldnt be so diplomatic towards said manager. Of course for arguments sake, you would honor the managers word and want Chelsea to walk away wouldnt you... Lescotts agent has been on talksport and stated Joleon will go on strike. I dont agree with it but it cant be good for dressing room harmony and possibly for future arrivals at Everton who see a player being held against his wishes to pursue another challenge. WITH LOADS OF MONEY TO BOOT!
