The beginning of the end for atmosphere in football stadiums?

Featured Replies

I am sure they do this in the fulham "away" end already. Dont they call it the neutral end instead?

Atmospheres have already suffered, what with stadium announcers whooping the crowd up pre-match and records being played when goals are scored.

Take yesterday for example. We'd just beaten our main title challengers went 5 points clear of them, and the MH stand started singing we are top of the league - only to be drowned uot by a f*cking madness record. Sometimes whoever is putting these records on should know when to leave it alone, or are we not capable of celebrating on our own anymore?

Beginning of the end? When you compare the atmosphere at games nowadays to that of games in the 60's, 70's & early 80's, it's hard to believe we're talking about the same sport. The kind of atmosphere we had in the old days will never return for many reasons, the main one being all-seater stadiums with power crazed stewards vigorously trying to stop fans from singing, shouting, standing and/or swearing.

I wonder if they'll introduce this bringing together of rival fans in the same area of the ground to a Millwall v West Ham game, or a Tottenham v Chelsea match - could be a very interesting experiment!

Exactly. I think 'final nail in the coffin' would be a more appropriate thread title.
