if JT plays on saturday then he matches Dennis Wises record of 298 appearances as captain. he will have another 27 games to go to beat Choppers record of 324 to become our record holding captain. another magnificent record for a player who will no doubt go down as a Chelsea legend....

Thanks for letting us know. Really glad to see our captain being someone from the ranks, and leading us so successfully

Three true Chelsea legends mentioned there. We're lucky to have someone like JT in this day and age.

this is so true. funny i was thinking the other day how if glenn hoddle hadn't of kicked thigns off - no hoddle would have meant no gullit, no vialli, no zola and all the rest then roman abramovitch probably wouldn't have been interested in buyign the club and we'd JT would have gone the same way or similar as ray wilkins.

I actually played against Chelsea when Hoddle took over and the transformation in the play was immediate. Every player tried to get the ball down and play, which suited the likes of David Lee perfectly. The foundations were put firmly in place at that time and we continued onwards and upwards from then on thank god ( Or Hod).

Bennyboy, who are you? Too have played against them?

I still can't help but think that as influential as Hoddle was, it was only made possible because Bates had the foresight to realise that then was the right time to invest in the club to that level. Hoddle was the first manager (certainly for a long time) that was told to build something for the future.

i wanted to ask that as well but i had to rush off. if you (bennyboy) can't tell us who you are then thats cool but you could at least say who you played for.

i think you (barn) might be right about bates but my point was really about hoddles influence on and off the pitch kicking things off.
