in the Yorkshire Evening Post of June 11th, we reported that a court had been told that Roman Abramovich had threatened to kill Ken Bates.

The allegations were repeated in our online articles.

We now accept that such threats were not made and should not have been published in this manner.

We wish to set the record straight.

We apologise for any distress caused to Mr Abramovich and his family and as a mark of our regret, we have agreed to pay Mr Abramovich substantial damages which he will be donating to charity, as well as his legal costs.

he should have hammered them for publishing something like that, its utterly disgraceful how they can get away with that kind of sh*t.

He did and they didn't

considering what they wrote in my opinion they got of very lightly only having to pay out to a charity (though i expect that it was quite substantial). at least the editor should be prosecuted, and the reporter sacked.

How can a paper publish that without any proof?! that is insane, how can you dare call yourself an objective news source after that kind of incident? That kind of stuff belongs to The Enquirer and The Globe on this side of the pond, in the make-believe celebrity news section, not in a national paper. And this isn't the second time someone has done something similar, but hey...he's the Chelsea boss...so it's allowed.

lol, Roman threatened to kill cuddly ken, eh? I agree theyve gotten off VERY light considering the nature of that accusation. I feel like the army of lawyers keeps on the payroll could have put them out of business.

in fairness the paper isn't making the allegation...from what I can tell, they were repeating what was said in court...anyway, glad to see a charity benefits from it!

it's good that the club and Roman are taking a firmer stance on all the false reporting and rubbish allegations, generally. It had been open season for quite a while for the papers to peddle their nonsense to gullable, nasty scousers, and anyone else with malicious thoughts or jealousy towards Chelsea. I think the stream of drivel will all but end fairly soon.
