Empty seats at Burnley last saturday

Featured Replies

does anyone have any idea why there were so many empty seats in our end at turf moor last week? according to the official club website all our allocation was sold out - i tried but failed on several occasions to get a ticket through the club, without any success. i ended up getting a ticket from an online ticket agency (who seemed to have plenty!!)...expected it to be a full house in our end, but at best it was 2/3 full. how does this happen - I'm getting pissed off not being able to get a ticket for away games, then seeing empty seats. this isn't the 1st time. anyone have any ideas?

I believe this was down to segregation. WHereas CFC use a line of stewards and a gangway to separate fans some clubs choose to leave or partially leave blocks of seats. Might be the way the stand is set up

I believe the system Chelsea use may be to blame.

As I understand it the club are offered a choice. They can take the whole allocation of away tickets but must pay for any unsold seats. Or, they can take a a certain percentage of the away allocation, (I believe it is generally half), on a sale or return basis. The club usually prefer the second option against the smaller teams.

Unbelievably, they even did this in 2005 when won the EPL at Bolton. Only took up half the allocation, and hence you had hundreds of Chelsea all around the ground mixed in with the home supporters. Myself being one of them.

Me too, although I was escorted out of the ground by over zealous stewards when Frank scored his first. Couldn't keep seated. oops.

Could you share with us how that experience was? Not winning the league (we can all imagine that), but how the Bolton supporters reacted to your reaction.

It was as you'd expect. Around 6000 people all singing "bye bye bye bye, bye bye bye bye" with the odd hand-gesture thrown in. I was below the scoreboard in the corner, with the Chelsea fans above me on the second tier. Got a round of applause from all of them though, as I walked off with my jacket off proudly showing my Autoglass shirt! Was a bit gutted I wasnt there as he got his second goal, confirming the league, but sure celebrated it after the game!

A few people were denied entry due to a couple of mini buses falling foul of Plod

Do we not also have 800 to 1,000 people on the away fans scheme and they are obliged to purchase tickets for every premier league away game?. Seems like some of these pick and choose which matches they actually attend hence there's always spares being offered about even before the 'Sold Out' signs go up.
