A guy giving tips in todays Daily mirror , Derek Mcgovern , now this is his comment word for word , maybe i took this wrong but heres his comment.

'Chelsea dealt comfortably with Spartak's plastic pitch 2 weeks ago, only a fool would back them at 4/1 tonight in front of their plastic fans'

Now i can only assume he didnt mean Spartak's fans .

I like how fans supporting Chelsea now are seen as plastic yet a fan who supported Liverpool in the 80s or Man United in 90s isn't. The comment you refer to is insulting aswell cause its basically making an assumption that all Chelsea fans are plastic including those of us who have supported them for years whether it be from decades ago or pre-abramovich. End of the day all we can do is enjoy winning things and ignore the tabloids, he probably is a jealous Arsenal fan or something.

No he meant our fans, because he is a angry failure of a writer, who has to resort to selling bookie tips in a rag people line dog cages with.

"That's why so many newspapers yesterday ran the old line about Fergie "knocking Liverpool off their perch." It makes nice reading, unless you're a Liverpool fan, but it's as close to the truth as a lonely hearts ad. Fergie's flat-track bullies made no mistakes against cannon fodder but won only one away game against clubs in the top seven. Paddy Power offer a tasty 9-4 that the Scot does not win another League title before retiring."
"It's squeaky-bum time for Alex Ferguson. Rafa Benitez seems to know which of his buttons to press while, for Fergie, there are only two options - the self-destruct one and the panic one."
Having assured Radio Five Live listeners that David Beckham would never play for Real Madrid again a few hours before the former England captain scored for them against Real Sociedad last Saturday, sports betting's "top tipster" Mystic Derek McGovern uses his platform in today's Mirror to confidently predict that Roman Abramovich will have sold Chelsea by next season. As it's well documented that the hapless Scouser couldn't tip sh*t off a shovel if his life depended on it, this news ought to come as a relief to any Chelsea fans worried that their Russian benefactor wasn't in it for the long haul.

No prizes for guessing, but he is Scouser through and through. And his bitterness is probably compounded by the fact that he's gone from the Guardian to the Mirror. Next stop: talksport to do Collymore's "man in the carpark" interviews

btw, the "tip" about Roman was from 2007, and the quote about Rafa's wind up ability was pre rant. Sometimes you should just look for a new line of work. :laugh2:

Cheers mate , id never heard of him until now . I try not to lets jealous jibes like that get to me , but being honest , it does.

F***in p**ck.

Well when we have a few more trophies in the cabinet (touch wood) at the end of the season we'll be the ones who are smiling mate. Unfortunately winning trophies creates jealousy but I just take it in the chin. I'm from Leeds and all I hear from Leeds fans is how we bought the league blah blah blah I just smile and think of the finals we are involved in whilst Leeds struggle in the Championship.

The whole "plastic" tag is quite farcical, originating from the plastic flags given away by the club. I remember some prick of a commentator singing the praises of Liverpool fans: "These fans don't need to be given flags" he oozed, "they bring their own". Well woop de doop. So Liverpool FC can't afford to have free red and white flags made for their fans.

It's not as if Chelsea are alone in giving away flags, Aston Villa also do this - yet not once do you hear Villa fans called "plastic" or Villa as a club ridiculed for "needing to give away flags to make an atmosphere".

No prizes for guessing, but he is Scouser through and through.

That sounds about right to me.

Of all the fans Liverpool are definitely the most jealous of us, its pathetic really. Many of the columnists who support Liverpool are always slagging us off. I hate when they talk about their fans been loyal etc etc and that they had them for years blah blah blah. They need to realise that succesful teams bring in new fans, it happens in every sport.

Also as far as jealousy goes with football people I'd say Wenger is the most jealous. He certainly wasn't happy with us coming in and taking the title from Arsenal. I think he felt that was their chance to dominate and they weren't ever able to sustain it.

Someone should send him a link to this place. Since I joined this place I've met (here, not in person) people who have supported Chelsea for longer than I have been alive, even longer than my parents have lived.

Many here have supported Chelsea when the team won nothing. I've seen devotion that makes me feel like I'm hardly a supporter at all

Sure, we have plastic fans, but what team doesn't? Even Liverpool with their "long and rich history" have supporters who are as plastic as you can possibly be.

I hope this prick watch the game tonight and he'll hear just how "plastic" we really are.

He deserves a celery up his a*se.

My email.....Congratulations mate, read your 'Plastic fans ' comment regarding Chelsea fans in todays betting section of the daily mirror. Your bitterness is as big as the self pity your favourite club crave , while were winning trophies , you lot are living off history., Going from the Guardian to the current rag you represent must be as embarassing as supporting Liverpool. I await an intelligent reply explaining your comment .

His intelligent reply...'never been at Guardian. never will' Nobody takes you lot seriously so get over yourself.

Sums him up.

Let me know what you say mate , and if he replies ok.

Lets hound the c**t.

I tried to sound like I wasn't that peeved off

"Hi Derek,

I was very disapointed by your comments regarding Chelsea fans as plastic. I do think its unfair to call Chelsea fans plastic, there are people that have supported the club since they were in the dredges of the second division and before that. I myself started supporting Chelsea in 1995 and we weren't very good then.

You see success always breeds new fans and unfortunately glory hunters exist at all clubs that win things. You should know this been a Liverpool fan. Many and a huge majority of people started supporting Liverpool in the 80s when they were the top team winning everything, same with United in the 90s but do they get referred to as plastic fans no they don't. This is the way of all sports glory brings new fans true fans and false fans but this is sport.

I really feel a grown man such as yourself shouldn't be coming out with comments like this. I assume its a jeaoulsy thing which is also something success brings. As a Liverpool fan you can hang on to your past histories whilst we will enjoy the history we are making now."

Thats what I sent, don't know how I came across lol, I'll let you know if he replies

I'm actually surprised he even answered. In a way that would make him seem like a better person. Unfortunately he decided to write an answer that makes him even more of a f*cknugget than he was to begin with.

I'm looking forward to see if he replies anyone else here.

If someone else writes him, maybe it might be appropriate to remind him that his precious Liverpool needs to start their matches with a karaoke to create atmosphere. How sad is that?

I sent him one:

Hi scouse f**kwit. I see you are still attempting to fill your pathetic betting piece in the mirror with something resembling humour, but failing as usual. Hope you are currently enjoying seeing Liverpool in so much sh*t, I am and I can assure you many others are. I look forward to your reply, as long as you can find your crayons of course. Signed, a Chelsea fan laughing his arse off at he scousers from way, way up the league.

Wonder if i`ll hear anything back...
