John Terry for Transfer

Featured Replies

I have a 2011 football calendar (Think you know football). This contains a daily quiz question. The question for 8th March was:-

"In 2000, Chelsea accepted a bid of £750,000 from Huddersfield for which player who only remained at the club because he turned the move down?"

I was astounded to learn that the answer was "JOHN TERRY" !!!

I have long despaired of Chelsea's ineptitude in the transfer market but I find it incredible that the club wanted to offload Terry in 2000. Who was our manager at that time, who was willing to release Terry? Was it Ranieri?

I remember that as well. Out of the 2, Jon Harley, looked like the bright young thing then. I remember JT getting his pants pulled down by Ginola against Spurs (I think on Weah debut), then he went on loan to Forest while Platt was manager. Came back a man.

Could have been either Vialli or Ranieri, since they both managed in 2000.

I find it hard to believe, though.

It did happen, I can remember it happening. He had been out on loan somewhere (Forest I think) and it was there he was spotted and a bid was made.

I remember that too, although I thought the reason it didn't go through is because Huddersfield (whose manager at the time was Steve Bruce) couldn't afford the transfer fee.
