Our Managers Since Ranieri

Featured Replies

Whos been your favourite and why?

obviously Mourinho as hes most successful but who else did we like

1. Mourinho

2. Hiddink

3. Ancelotti

4. AVB

5. Ranieri

6. Grant

7. Scolari

f**kin hated scolari i feel ill when i think back to when we had him

Only one I had an issue with was Scolari. I have a soft spot for all of the rest of them. AVB remains unproven so I shan't be commenting on him

We had good days under all the rest. No one could forget Ranieri having to dry his eyes when we knocked out Arsenal during their undefeated season. Similarly I'll always admire the way Carlo did his business here and the way Hiddink went into bat for our players after we were robbed against Barca. Jose obviously speaks for himself

For all the criticism Grant got/gets, I like him as well. The run in to the title that year, Ballack scoring the winner against United at home, plus the Champions League run, finally knocking out Liverpool. Frank's penalty. That will live long in the memory for me. I felt very happy for him when his subs were involved in the comeback against Arsenal when a good portion of the crowd chanted 'you don't know what you're doing' at him when they were brought on. Bar the League Cup loss to Spuds I would express unmitigated admiration for what he did in his time here.

How the hell, after 4 games, is AVB above Grant, someone who got us to the Champions League final and gave us a good title run and Ancelotti, who won the FA Cup and the Premiership in his first season. Putting him above Ranieri is absurd aswell.

I have very fond memories of Ranieri too. It felt like a soap opera or something following his progress the first few years what with him not being able to speak Englsih at all, and for 3 years we didn't really go anywhere in the league. I chuckle pretty hard thinking about those defeats to Viking Stavanger and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Uefa cup too. But the most significant thing he did was get to get us to the CL (obvious reasons - also he did sign Lampard, Cech, Makelele, Robben, Crespo and Duff). Not to mention promoting JT to the first team.

It goes without saying that Jose was the best of the lot, but I have to say I have a bit of a soft spot for Avram too. I thought he did an admirable job in taking us very close to both the title and the European Cup given all the tension at the club post-Mourinho. Hiddink was like a saviour that one season, and Carlo on balance was pretty good too. Shame it went to so badly for him in the second season, partly his fault and the board's for evidently not providing enough funds to fill the gaping holes we had in the squad in August.

I'm still somewhat miffed as to how Scolari flopped so badly. We looked so strong the first few months of that season, but then as soon as we hit a blip all the in-fighting began. It seems as though Scolari was difficult person and so much of our problems under his regime derived from that I feel. Seems silly to say so but the personality of our coach seems to have a big effect on the team.
