That was years ago, the Mourinho of last decade is nothing to the Mourinho of this decade. Although he did a good job with Madrid in his 2nd season, it ended in absolute disaster, same in his 2nd stint here and at United it was a complete sh*tshow altogether, besides the Lidle Treble that he won, he massively underachieved at that club.

If this was Mourinho from over 10 years ago I would agree, but football has changed. Jose still doesn't like playing with wingbacks, right now wingbacks are instrumental to almost every teams attacking play, it isn't just the pragmatisim of Mourinho that's out of date. It's how he operates, he can't get away with being the big boss man anymore like he could years ago, at United he had revolt after revolt and the players won, the players always win now. He'll have players like Dier starting and playing 180 minutes a week because he runs around and works hard.

Very doubtful, I imagine he'll have a good bounce with them, and they'll probably go on a bit of a run this season but I really can't see him benefiting Spurs in the long term or get them challenging, if he does I'll be massively impressed.

For me Jose is past it, his style of football doesn't work anymore. He had about 600 million to spend at United and he's somehow convinced many neutrals and United supporters that he overachieved, a load of nonsense, Mourinho signed a player for every single position besides GK and almost every one of them was a flop besides Zlatan. United look worse now than they did before Van Gaal took the helm, he took them backwards despite spending that much money. United fans can't place 100% of the blame on Woodward, he gave Jose more than enough money to spend.

As much as people want to criticise Klopp and Pep for spending, they at least sign good players, Jose signed nothing but utter sh*te and couldn't get good performances out of the youngsters.

Nothing should surprise us in football these days - but I really didn't see this one coming.
What I can't get my head around is that it wasn't long ago that Poch was one of the most sought after managers. Looked likely Real Madrid or United was his next calling and Spurs could have expected big compensation. Now they have sacked him and let him go and replaced him with a washed up guy who failed at Man Utd who they couldn't wait to get shot of him. I should think United are rubbing their hands at now not having to pay compensation and are already looking to get him in and wave goodbye to OGS - it'll just be down to timing.
My very slight fear that it could work out and Mourinho might bring some success to Spurs is FAR outweighed by the probability that the already hated club will now be even more hated and we can look forward to a complete car-crash of extremely enjoyable proportions. They deserve each other!!

This is controversial and perhaps I'm overly dejected about the current state of the Club, Antonio Conte's future etc...But I'm genuinely beginning to wonder whether there is any real sense in building this new stadium. Obviously, CFC would make more matchday revenue from ticket sales, megastore purchases etc, but that's becoming less relevant season after season given the gargantuan tv deals and corporate sponsorships which the clubs receive. Also, I'm beginning to wonder if the Club's relative frugality in the transfer market these days is directly linked to the future financing of the new stadium. It seems like Abramovich's plans for the stadium are very expensive and as a result we can no longer compete for the elite players in the market; We are clearly falling behind Man United and Man City in this sense, and I worry that what happened to Arsenal from 2006-2012 could easily happen to us if there were large debts which would need to be repaid. Lastly, as a current Season Ticket Holder, I think spending 3 seasons at Wembley/The London Stadium would be truly awful in so manys ways and I fear that our core, matchgoing support would diminish at a faster rate than it currently is at the moment.
As I say, perhaps I'm being overly pessimistic in light of the current situation at the club, but I just don't see the new stadium making a lot of sense.

Great point. There seems to be a 'Happy Go Lucky' mentality amongst many within the older generation ie. those that were there when were sh*t. In fairness I can understand this, they would never have dreamed of seeing anything approaching the success that Roman Abramovich has brought to to Chelsea. They've seen us win the lot and anything on top is a bonus. At the same time though, Abramovich/The Board's management style is preventing us from competing consistently at the top level and as fans we have to be critical of this. I can appreciate that, in the supposed age of FFP, we don't have the same level of resources as Man United and Man City. But we can certainly compete if our money is spent more efficiently through a more considered, coherent long-term strategy. This would actually allow a manager to implement his philosophy of Football and then develop the first team squad over a sustained period of time without the perpetual fear of being sacked if there is a downturn in results.
Finally - For the record, I've been a Chelsea fan since the mid 90's when I was a small child growing up in SW6. I am truly grateful for everything Roman Abramovich has brought to Chelsea and I hope no one thinks otherwise. But at the same time I am genuinely worried about the long term future of this club, particularly with the new stadium move on the horizon, and feel that the way in which it is managed could bring us into severe trouble.

I haven't been on here in a while but after tonight and what I'm certain is coming I feel the need to vent about the Board.
There's a clear trend that has occurred at this club during the Abramovich era. It happened with Ancelotti, Mourinho (second time in partic) and now it's happening with Conte - Win the League, then instead of trying to build on that by acquiring the best players the Board rest on their laurels and waste money on average squad fillers to appease the manager. As a result, the pre-existing players get complacent, things go stale the following season, and after some bad results the Club lurches into crisis once again. Ultimately the manager is sacked, someone else comes in, and the process begins once again.
Why can't they ever learn? Can they really not spot this trend? This culture of short-termism is baffling, and I haven't even got onto the issue of the Academy. Perhaps Roman Abramovich prefers to run all of his operations in this way. To his credit Sir Alex Ferguson would always look to make a big signing or two after winning the title, and as a result he was able to build a dynasty and win 13 of them all in all.
I'm sure what I'm saying isn't news to anyone but I really worry about the future of the club. We could quite easily miss out on the top 4 this season, which in the context of Courtois and Hazard's respective contracts could be a disaster.

Great post agree 100%. Jamie Carragher spoke about this last night in his post match summation. As some posters have pointed out the issue isn't the manager it is the culture of the club and that leads directly from the board to Roman.

"Well, Antonio Read a post by I am gay 4 Diego on an Internet forum, realised he was right and asked us to look at it. We all on the board agreed it was genius, and Roman said he had read it last week and believes it the way forward. Thanks gay..."

And when you mention this on here or on social media while it's going on, certain fans accuse you of being spoilt and ungrateful (as you can tell, I'm still highly irritated by those accusations). There's a certain section of the fanbase that need a kick up the arse as well. This isn't 1983. You don't have to settle for mediocrity when our ceiling is clearly much, much higher these days.

However how bad was baka otherwise? Consistently putting Watford in on goal and misplacing the ball. Truly poor.

Utterly, unforgivably stupid. He has ranged from somewhat above average to consistently appalling (predominantly the latter) during his time here. Any midfielder possessing a brain (particularly one who has personally been trained by Claude Makélélé) should know not to make the challenge he attempted which inevitably led to the red. Both cards were caused by his own poor touches for what it's worth...
I have never said this before (except about Torres, and even then it was out of pity) - but I hope I never see him in a Chelsea shirt again. If in three years it turns out he's the next Essien (see: Salah) then blacklisting him would still be a good decision. Utterly, utterly appalling.

I've been much more patient with this bloke than most but I've had it with him tonight. That was one of the most appalling performances I've ever seen by any Chelsea player. He lost the ball virtually every time he got it, he was so lackadaisical that quite frankly it was unprofessional. It's a shame that he didn't get a straight red as he'd be suspended 3 games rather than one.
At this point I'd rather Drinkwater/Luiz/Barkley or even Ampadu in midfield. The Bakayoko experiment should be shelved until next season, or pehaps he needs to be sold on/loaned out. He is far too much of a liability, his lack of focus has directly catalysed two very damaging defeats.
