Current World Fantasy XI Draft: Preliminary Thread

Featured Replies

Hello. So I know in the past couple of years the board has passed the time by doing fantasy drafts, first for all-time Chelsea players, then for all-time world players. These have been fun, so I was thinking of putting another one together. The best idea I could come up with so far is to only use players who are currently playing (or have played in a competitive match this calendar year, in case someone picks a person who ends up retiring this summer).

What do people think of the idea? I would take it on myself to run this, so once we got a good, even amount of teams, I would enter everyone's name in a random number generator and figure out a draft order. This would proceed as a snake draft, meaning that if there are 8 teams, the draft order goes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,7,6,5, etc.

Two issues in my mind come up when doing this: first, Chelsea players? When we did the world players one, we didn't allow any Chelsea players to be drafted. I am fine with continuing to do that, but I also think that letting each person pick 1 current Chelsea player would still be fun. Second: when judging, what do we do with current players that used to be among the best in the world and are now not so anymore, Ronaldino for example. I would say that when judging, we only try and look at how players have fared for the last 1-2 years, but I am open to suggestions.

I envision everyone making out a starting XI and the then picking a coach (someone who has coached in the last 2 years). Then, depending on how many teams we end up with, we'll form a bracket and get to voting on who can make the best team. Sound good?

Any interest at all? If no one wants to, that's perfectly fine as it will save me the time of putting together, but these drafts have been a fun way of passing the time during the summer. Just bumping this up once to make sure people see it.

With this being the 20th year of the Premiership, people have been picking their favourite premiership players and making up an all time team, over the last 20 seasons, maybe try this ?

I would be fine with that.

4 so far (I'm assuming coco is in).

What do we want to do about Chelsea players? I guess you want to avoid bias when we vote. I'd say limit the amount of CFC in your lineup, 2-3 depending on how many total people we have participating in the draft. Thoughts?

Always up for a draft. Though I have less time these days, and I'd hate to be the guy that keeps people waiting.

I like the current player idea. Love to research old players but I don't think most of the people voting would. I'd suggest including Chelsea players and agree with the last 2 seasons form for judging.
