My first game. Grandad took me as a 7 year old kid. ive just seen game again on you tube. I was stood snout through the north stand fence in line with the corner flag by the west stand. My hero ray wilkins has missed a sitter. I was already a huge chelsea fan before i went and loved grandads stories about greaves and ossie and the cat. A baking hot day and colours to blow your mind and Mickey Droy in full flow what a day.

Was that not the season opener with Duncan playing his first game for us. I remember buying a Duncan Mckenzie is magic badge before the game. lots of fans were shirtless as well due to the heat that day. I also seem to remember Butch missing an open goal against Millwall the year we got promoted

If it was the season opener they were still painting the crash barriers yellow on the Friday evening when I went in the ground on my way home from work which all peeled off the next day as it was so hot.  I met a couple of Everton fans taking photos in the North Stand, go easy on us tomorrow they asked.  I wonder if they went to High St. Ken on the train after the match?

Duncan Mckenzie. When we signed him i thought he was the best striker in the world and he turned out to be sh*t. We were heavily linked to sign kevin keegan at the same time i think.

Yes we have a history of that

McKenzie was a flop but I highly doubt we would have got Keegan at the time. We were skint and clearly lower half of the table at best. He was at the peak of his career and went to Hamburg to become European footballer of the year. Still it would have been interesting to see how different that season would have been if he had come to us instead.
