Purslow Appointed to Run 'Global Commercial Activities'

Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce that Christian Purslow is joining the club to run our global commercial activities. Mr Purslow's appointment is effective ‎immediately.

The club has ambitious plans to build the Premier League's most pioneering global commercial programme, partnering with innovative and market-leading organisations from around the world. The club believes Mr Purslow has the vision and the leadership qualities to help us achieve these plans.

‎Chelsea does not expect to announce any other senior appointments in the near future. As announced last week, Chairman Bruce Buck and Director Marina Granovskaia have assumed the executive responsibilities held by our former chief executive.

Looks like Gourlay's former responsibilities are being redistributed. Scousers don't rate him at all but that seems to be based on his role in footballing decisions (Cole, Hodgson etc.).

Scousers? What do they know?

Haha good luck with that Chelsea, he's a walking disaster. He's learnt his trade off football manager.

Brilliant news, hopefully they give him just enough time to run Chelsea into the ground.

Good Luck wth that, he was useless @ Liverpool, unfortunately we replaced him with Ian Ayre who's 10 times worse.

So what exactly are our "global commercial activities"?

Is that things like the blue pitches initiative the club started up in Asia?

I don't suppose we will be hearing too much from Mr Purslow in the future.

I would assume improving corporate sponsorship etc?

He must have a key asset that we like, whether its connections to a market we aren't familiar or something else.

He hates Rafa, so that's a plus.

His problems at Liverpool were the same as both Kenyon and Gourlay initially- non-football chairmen overstepping the mark and meddling in football matters.

Hopefully the club has learned its lesson in that regard. The clear split of Gourlay's role into football and commercial sectors will help this.
