The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Featured Replies

Been looking forward to this since it was announced, not long now. Anyone got any plans to see it? Nothing like a comic book movie for a bit of escapism.

Marvel films have stepped up in their last couple of releases.

I thought post Avengers that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 were quite dull.

But then Captain America: Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy were two of their best films, right up there with Iron Man and Avengers.

Winter Soldier pushed the phase 2 story line along a huge amount with the Hydra revelation so I'm interested to see how that plays out in Age of Ultron.

Small, intimate 2D screening tomorrow night.

Big, massive IMAX 3D screening next week.

Maybe would have preferred it the other way round but still, I'm totes excited.

I watched this on the weekend, enjoyed it for what it was. There was some humour I liked especially the scenes with Thor and his hammer but thought Ultron shouldnt have one liners and humour. I'd like to see a serious villian in the Marvel Universe, hopefully Thanos wont be cracking jokes. I really want him to kill off an Avengers in the future movies, just to make a statement. My favourite character was the scarlet witch, I liked the serious element to her and her powers were pretty badass.

I think the next avengers movies will benefit with a new director, when the world is going to end and you need a team to save it I really don't want them to talk about their use of language. Though I do appreciate that the Marvel films are catered to all ages.

7/10 for me.

Saw it last night and overall it is a really enjoyable film but there were elements to it that I didn't like.

The Banner/Black Widow romance? What the f**k was that all about? Really felt shoehorned in. Been no hint of sexual interest previously and now suddenly Black Widow is proper moist for a bit of big green cock... Didn't make sense in the overall story arc they've built and just felt like a convenient plot device.

I didn't like that there was quite a bit of time in the film that was purely setting up future releases in particular:

Thor, just mid film decides to go off for a swim in the magic pond or whatever it was so that it can set up Thor 3. Just upset the pacing of the film rather than add anything of use.

And finally:

Tony Stark was just a massive prick for large parts of the film. After the first film ephasised the importance of a team ethic to make the Avengers work, especially after Agent Coulson's "death" we get Stark not once but twice f**king about with infinity stones and potentially bringing on the end of the world.

Again felt like it's part of setting up phase 3 which will be Civil War where Stark and Steve Rodgers go head to head due to different ideologies on what it means to be an Avenger.

How do I spoiler tag? I'm sure it's simple but I want to reply to each of those points.

I saw it last Friday. Well, 2/3rds of the screen as I had some tall dick in front of me who constantly turned his fat head to look at his whiney voiced son. I'm going tomorrow night in my favourite cinema seat with no f**ker in front of me. So hopefully I'll be able to enjoy it.

On initial viewing – 8.5/10, love the Avengers, silly plot or not.

Are you replying on the desktop version of the site?

If so there is a "More reply options" button on the bottom right corner of the reply box.

Then from there it's the third button from the left in the new window which is "Special BBCodes" which has the option there.

Alternatively use

to begin your text and close it off with [/spoiler*] (removing the star).

Thanks, that's give this a whirl.

I agree, although I don’t want any Avenger romance you would have thought after Winter's Soldier that if there was one it would be with Captain America. It’s just a bit weird that they had that brief kiss scene on the escalator and now she’s moved onto Banner.

I wondered what that was about, thanks, completely went over my head and just thought it was completely irrelevant to anything… apart from Thor taking his top off which to be honest, is reason enough for the scene.

I’m a bit pissed off the next Captain America will have another main Avenger in it, this is his show, Iron Man has had three for himself already. Pffft. I did like the hammer scene, Thor’s face when CA moves it slightly, brilliant.

I think the next Cap film is based on a conflict between Ironman and Captain America, I think that's common knowledge now. Avengers under Joss Whedon is a pop corn movie, it's no different to Fast 7 with better actors. Winter solider is seen as one of the best Marvel movies and it is no surprise as they took a quite serious more gritty approach. The villian in that movie felt like a Villian with a history. I believe the director of that is going to do the new Avenger movies, so I am looking forward to that. Like I said in the previous post, I really want to see Thanos come across as a bad ass. I liked Tony Starks vision in the movie and I hope it is heading down that direction. You can still have the fun factor, just not in the way Joss Whedon writes it.

It's all about personal preference though.

There is going to be a blu ray edit of age of ultron which will have a lot more than the edit that has come out in the cinema  So it should explain alot of the confusing pieces in the movie.

Supposedly there's heaps that got cut and the original cut was closer to 3hrs 30 which would explain the all over the place feel

Still enjoyed it though and I'm curious to see the extended cut if it actually is true

I hope the Blueray DVD is the extended edition then!

I've seen it three times now (well, two... the first time I had some tall arsehole in front of me) and I enjoyed every single one without getting bored. Like FC I'm a little underwhelmed with the romance side of it but I do think boys don't know what to do with female super heroes.

I was really looking forward to Civil War but with RDJ in it it’ll turn into an Ironman film from what it’s supposed to be – the third Captain America instalment.

Saw it today. A couple of things held it back in my opinion, both have been mentioned already.

Firstly, Ultron was a really pathetic villain - the worst in Marvel's history. Secondly, the romance between [X] and [X] felt very contrived and pointless - like the romance between Tauriel and Kili in the Hobbit if anyone has seen that.

Still, a decent film despite that so I'd give it 7.5/10
