Hillsborough Verdict

I think the video shown on this page shows the catalogue of failure by the authorities to exercise crowd control http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/local/video-hillsborough-tragedy-footage-shown-to-jury-1-6633282

Anyone who attended matches around this period will know that crowd control then was to treat all fans will equal disdain, everyone was there for trouble in their eyes. The fences when they went up created potential death traps at many grounds, removing the safe haven of the pitch if there was a crush. This was an accident waiting to happen, it could quite definetly have been any one of us involved. For Leppings Lane you could easily substitute any number of ends that had a similar design.

The government of the day should be equally as answerable as the police who together concocted a web of deceit, instead of facing upto their failings. Lies were fed to the media and the injustice was born. Was there ticketless fans there? I have no doubt there was. Question is though why were they able to get so close to the turnstiles without a ticket? I've also no doubt that like today there will have been some fans who had had a drink before the match. The effect of both these facts though is in all probabilty miniscule in the big picture. If the event had been properly organised, the team with the biggest support put in the larger end for one thing along with better crowd control the dangers would have been minimised.

On the question of compensation , how do you put a price on someones life? This day changed the lives of so many people forever.

I don't argue that if a loved one died, or you yourself were injured, even if you were one of those attempting to save a life then you deserve compensation!

However there are claims that are coming in from people that weren't even there! From people that have taken part in the JFT96 campaign, now claiming stress!! These are the people that I have issue with.

With regards to the comment above that no doubt there were ticketless fans & some drunken fans, we all know that this would be the case, of course it is, so therefore some fans played a part in the disaster, not the cause directly, but definitely a part played.

I agree. There has to be a limit as (the particular issue aside) you could claim to be stressed from seeing something on the news, even if you were not there. I've been shown the footage of the Bradford fire a few times in connection with fire warden training. It's horrific to see but I wasn't there and it would be wrong of me to claim to be affected to the same extent as someone who was there.
