Hello from Colorado, USA

Featured Replies

Hello from across the pond.

Id like to say I have a great story of how my fandom came to be, (seeing some of you have been fans of the Blues for generations can be a bit intimidating as a newbie) but alas that is not the case.  A few years back a buddy of mine gifted me a copy of FIFA and after creating my player I decided to play my career for the Blues mostly because I liked the color. Fast forward to last year when Chelsea acquired Pulisic, having an American born player on the team made it feel like destiny that I should support Chelsea. As luck would have it this year brings me to London for the first time in my life and I was able to get tickets to the Chelsea vs Man Utd match on Monday. Ill be sitting in MHL with my wife and my mother in our blue hats and scarves, but there are a few questions I'd like to ask about attending my first match if you don't mind helping.

What are the definite Do's and Don'ts for a first time attendee?

Any Pre and Post match activities that are a must see?

What chants should I learn first?

any guidance would be much appreciated thanks!

-Mike

Welcome Mike,

It's a long time since I have been though blogging gives you some insight into current happenings.

The old saying about when in Rome do as the Romans do, applies here too, so if a song starts, 'Stand up if you hate Man Utd' then I would suggest standing up!

I am amazed for a first match you have acquired tickets for the MHL vs Man Utd.

That part of the ground is the most lively so perhaps best to warn your Mum she might get to hear some rather choice vocabulary.

Some chants to start with:

A.

Carefree, wherever you may be,

We are the famous CFC,

And we don’t give a ****

Wherever you may be,

Cause we are the famous CFC.

B.

We all follow the Chelsea,

Over land and sea and Leicester,

We all follow the Chelsea,

Onto victory.

C.

Super, super Frank,

Super, super Frank,

Super, super Frank,

Super Frankie Lampard.

D.

One man went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
(aside) Meadow!,
One man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!,
Went to mow a meadow,

Two men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
(aside) Meadow!
Two men, one man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!
Went to mow a meadow,

Three men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,

(aside) Meadow!
Three men, two men, one man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!
Went to mow a meadow,
Four men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
(aside) Meadow!
Four men, three men, two men, one man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!
Went to mow a meadow,

Five men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
(aside) Meadow!
Five men, four men, three men, two men, one man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!
Went to mow a meadow,

Six men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,

Seven men went to mow,

Went to mow a meadow,

Seven men, six men, five men, four men, three men,
two men, one man and his dog,
(aside) Spot!
Went to mow a meadow,

Don’t buy a half and half scarf or else we’ll all think (justifiably) that you’re w**ker.

Try and join in the singing but be warned if you get the lyrics wrong we’ll all think (justifiably) that you’re a w**ker

Any Pre and Post match activities that are a must see?

Pub. There’s loads around to chose from. The Pensioner is a loud one with lots of singing or just next to it The Fox & Pheasant is a quieter one for the more refined fan.

What chants should I learn first?

Carefree is the main one. 99% of our chants our only a few words mainly to the same tunes nowadays due to short attention spans of the young and failing memories of the elderly.

any guidance would be much appreciated thanks!

Hope that helps.

You guys have a lot of chants.  Also from the US, mostly watch football (I will try to use your term for it) on TV.  Curious how it is decided which chant everyone is going to do.

  • 3 weeks later...

Where in CO?  If in Denver there is a solid chapter of the CIA (Chelsea in America - an official supporters group) that meet regularly at a pub on the north side of downtown.
