The structure we are puzzling over isn't the floodlight base, although the base of the floodlight midway along the top of the West Terrace was where they used to film from.info below...

Looks like a boxing ring in the centre of the pitch. Early - mid 1920s perhaps ?

November 1912: The Danish footballer Middleboe, a newly signed player for Chelsea on the pitch for a match against Derby County at The Bridge.

Circa 1930: It wasn't just football which drew the crowds, athletics was very popular too.
