Cast your mind back to Kenyon's Open Top Victory parade interview a year ago.

"Tevez is a player we've looked at but we will not be signing him in the summer, if Shevchenko, however, becomes available, we will be interested."

It's pointless now discussing whether the opposite view would have seen us ease the long term width crisis we experienced during the following campaign but one thing is for certain, had we bought him, the Spammers would have joined Leeds in relegation to ease the pain of being dethroned as Champions for us old school Chelsea fans!

Like when the Argies Villa and Ardilles arrived at Spuds and even eventually our own Hernan Crespo, Tevez has proved perfectly suited to the Premiership and excelled in his first season.

Dare I say it, well I am going to, Carlos Tevez is the closest in talent (and looks!) to in my mind the greatest player ever to wear the illustrious blue ... Gianfranco Zola.

If we want a player this summer, the wide man, come 2nd striker, playmaker some are wishing for, all action tracker backer, Tevez is our man.

Like when Manure nicked Cantona from Leeds, a move for the little man would shake our challengers next season and maybe just maybe he'd be the catalyst for a sustained period of dominance at home and in Europe in years to come.

I really like watching Tevez play (passion, skill, etc) but I cannot see him fitting in at Chelsea. Far too unpredictable for Jose to even consider him.

He reminds me of Faustino Asprilla (but better and only slightly less mental).

And how much do you think Tevez (or Zola for that matter) would have been able to contribute in a team that, on far too many occasions this season, has favoured the 'Spy Drogba, READY, AIM, FIRE' approach to passing.

In our team, with our current tactics, Zola and Tevez, and anyone else who fits into that mould, would be spectators and would probably be accused of not contributing enough to team.

Note to Dorest - I am softening in my opinion on Tevez howver for the reasons above he is still not suited to our team.

I'd revert to our Championship winning formation of 4-3-3 as I said at the outset.

Whilst it maybe doesn't suit Drogba, as his goalscoring exploits have proved in the diamond, it is a tried and trusted and successful team formula.

Mikel, Essien, Lampard. - Joey Cole, Drogba, Tevez.

Cole and Tevez would be a revelation in the same team and could link up with the Drog rather than hugging the line Duffers style. Tevez's workrate is astonishing and i'm sure this would appeal to Jose even if biting the bullet and sacrificing the system to accomodate our Champions League signings wouldn't icon_wink.gif

For me, in that championship winning formation, Duff was far more vital than a Cole or a Tevez would be. It needs a player who can hug the flank but , most importnatly, has the discipline an ability to hold the ball, keep possession, rarely waste a pass, and basically do the kind of ugly work that wingers are not famous for doing.

I don't think that formation works nearly as well if you players like Cole and Tevez on both flanks - it needs a Duff.

I think Tevez is a very good player. Dunno if he should join us though. If he was to...I agree with loz, we gotta start playing it on the floor more often.

I?ve just about given up on singing Tevez?s praises (hence the recent, totally out of character, "Tevez? For Chelsea? Well, that is a good idea" short posts), but there are any number of longer efforts I could ?bump? if I had the slightest idea of how to do it - including one going back to the old CSR, if my memory serves me correctly. However, nice to know you are softening, Loz, (not a pleasant image) although to still reject him on grounds of our own tactical deficiencies, rather than his, is a bit like not offering a drowning man a lifeline because, even though he?s worth saving, the boat isn?t performing too well at the moment and might not reach shore.

Well at the end of the day (I took that from the 'Footballers Guide to Talking') you should buy a player that will fit in, and deliver, within your team, not a player that fits in elsewhere.

It's a bit like offering a great drowner a place in your snorkelling team just because he looked good at drowning!

p.s. The most effective way to bump a post is to wait until something you said in the dim and distant past, in an entirely different context, is proved to be incorrect or at least ill judged.

Then just sit back and do nothing - G4 will be around to bump it in no time.

Isn't that right Barak, or should I say 'President of the Milan Baros Fan Club'
