Posted May 14, 200717 yr (bet i'm not the first to put this kind of thread...) Do you prefer: "Winning with any cost" or "It's really beautiful at its best"? I think Chelsea is leaning to the earlier one (this season especially). Team brazil is more of the latter or barca. Would you like Chelsea to play more of the latter one or do you think it already does? At best Robben's moves are world class as well as Joe Cole's. And Lampard's millimeter accurate long passes are brilliant. Drogba's goals this season were something to look at. But still.. Defence is the key and we always attack with defence bearing in mind. And that's why the attack only looks really good and threatening when we are trailing and a goal is a must. In those situations the team attacks as a team. This season its been mostly Lamps' long pass to Drogs' chest. When you are waiting the game to start you are just waiting chelsea to score early and keep that lead. You are not waiting to see some brilliant moves from Robben or some great one-to-one passes unleashing drogs to score. You just wait 90 minutes to see 3 points coming to the league table. This is how I experienced it this season anyway. Don't get me wrong there we bits and pieces here and there with some brilliance! I think we have all the players and all the skill to play more beatiful, but it is the tactics of JM and many times the tactics of the opposing team(11 men waiting behind the ball) making our attacks look like grinding. Didn't you just love it when Zola made those cool moves and passed the ball looking the other way. Gudjohnsen learned some of those tricks and moves from Zola, but now he's gone as well... I would like to see us in a more attacking formation. 433 was lot more entertaining than 442.
May 14, 200717 yr So, is the question between: ALMOST getting lucky and going home with: And DEFINITELY getting lucky and going home with: Is that it? Because surely there must be a third option!!!
May 14, 200717 yr Author Combining those two makes sense! Margaret in Camerons clothes: Old lady dressed like a tramp...thats Liverpool! We are more like Cameron in Margarets clothes: Young hottie in blue suit!

May 14, 200717 yr I don't buy the argument that our tactics are being dictated by the opposing team putting 11 men behind the ball. This is the case of every top quality team facing an inferior opponent but somehow that doesn't prevent many other teams from playing creative beautiful football. Arsenal circa 03/04 went unbeaten in the league and played fantastic football. Barca won the last two titles in Spain and a CL trophy nd even their biggest critics can't deny how brilliant their style was. ManU had won the title this season by overpowering the opposition with their attacking display. Even a club like AC Milan, known for its classsic italian 'defence first' attitude outplayed and outclassed MU in the recent CL semi by taking the game to them instead of sitting back and waiting to counter. The whole point of having a deep squad full of top individual quality is that we have a luxury to dictate the way most of the matches are played simply because we have better players across the field. It's down to the manager though to work out the system that would benefit the players the most and that's where i don't understand Jose's thinking at all. So my answer is: we can play beautiful football and still win trophies. In fact, i think by playing more creative style our chances of winning trophies will get even better. Watching a team worth few hundred million pounds struggling to create chances against the likes of Watford is reason enough to realize that something is missing from Mourinho's tactical approach.
