I think this is 80% on Maresca and 20% on the board. Sure the board didn't do enough to shore up our defense with proper options, lack of experience throughout the pitch, etc. and any coach would generally complain about these things but Maresca has gone about this the wrong way.

  • Maresca was speaking to Juve and City much before we entered this rough winless patch which could mean that his head wasn't here at Chelsea to being with and he was only looking at this as a step-up job.

  • The City story was leaked by someone to the press and from what I'm hearing, it was Maresca's agent Jorge Mendes trying to signal the Chelsea board how much of a wanted man Maresca is.

  • Winning just 1 in 7 games and dropping 15 points from winning positions is not something that one should be expecting from this squad full of talent, no matter how young they are. And to top it off, Maresca thought that he had the leverage to renegotiate his contract after this sh*t.

  • Another stingy point is that Maresca was trying to push Neto ahead of Estevao and the board disagreed. The board (and I believe a lot of Chelsea fans) feels that the team should be built around Estevao and I don't disagree. Maresca should have handled this a lot better.

All in all, I think it was the right decision to sack him given what all transpired behind the scenes. Now whether the board can replace him with a better coach is a different question altogether. At this point and given Clearlake's track record, I'd take anyone that is not worse than Maresca.

Can't disagree, I have no problem with Maresca being sacked. The problem is it looks like we're getting a manager that has no business being Chelsea manager currently, which has shown everybody that 'the project' is more important than the fans and the on field success of this club. I feel like this has given everybody that big wake up call, myself included, that the people running the club are not fit for purpose.

I’m glad Maresca has gone but not overjoyed at replacement rumours

Seasons over get some Chelsea blood on a week by week contract until end of season

Fabrigas , wise , Terry even zola

I said a week before the season started he would be gone by Christmas, i missed it by a week, he was a very lucky manager he should have gone at the end of the last season.

Carlo won us the double and finished runners up the following season and was fired in the tunnel, Di matteo won us the champions league and was fired midway through the following season, Jose won us the PL and was fired at Christmas the following season, so this clown was on borrowed time, he blew a massive chance at Everton by telling everyone we couldn’t win the league, inviting the players to down tools, they won the Farmers league because of Palmer deciding to take no notice of Coco the clown, they then won the CWC despite only playing one decent side and again a master class by palmer, and don’t forget he called out the fans,he played some of the most boring football ever seen at Stamford Bridge and rotated for the sake of it, ok we have since heard he was told to rotate the squad BUT that was no excuse to play players in unfamiliar positions just because he could, and don’t forget he was a coward and proved it against Man Utd
