He is supposed to be our first choice right back, but today he lost his place to Essien and Belletti.

It says on the official site "Ferreira made way for Essien", no mention of an injury.

Do you think this will become the norm for the rest of the season ?

Is it Grants way of fitting Essien into the team without dropping Ballack or Lampard ?

That does seem a bit strange. Based on Essien's performances this season, personally I'd feel much happier with Paulo at right back.

Essien's form has been very hit and miss this season, so why has he been selected at right back ahead of 2 genuine right backs ?

If it is tactics, which one's....

Was it because he offers more stability at right back ?

Or is it beacuse he will get forward more at right back ?

Wheres your confidence in our right backs Avram ? 317.gif

seems like the idea was to have essien's power going forward, with in theory better defending and more strength / athleticism than belletti...

however it didn't really work. he got caught out of position too often there.

Avram was probably thinking that he wanted Essien to play. Essien was used in right back last season so he is used to the position. Belletti has had his on-off days and so too has Paulo.

Essien has had an on-off season because he has been played out of position. You saw how he took the game by the scruff of the neck once he was moved to midfield against Arsenal.

All our right backs are decent but we probably need someone a bit more stable. I still think Paulo has been awesome and we need to keep him, he is so reliable and doesn't have really bad spells. Belletti is quality at the attacking runs too...maybe we should've got hold of Alves?
