Alcides To Replace Carvalho?

Alan

Alcides has said that he is being recalled to Chelsea to replace Carvalho, who is off to Inter Milan:

Goal

Here's a litle bit about him from Wikipedia:

Alcides Eduardo Mendes de Araújo Alves, best known as Alcides (born in São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo State, March 13, 1985) is a Brazilian footballer who currently plays for Chelsea and has returned from a recent loan spell with PSV Eindhoven. He also played for FC Schalke 04 and S.L. Benfica .

Alcides was kidnapped in Brazil, but was released after he convinced his kidnappers he was not a football player.

On February 3, 2007 he played his first Eredivisie match for PSV against AZ Alkmaar. He recently played in a UEFA Cup match against English side Tottenham Hotspur in which PSV won 1-0, and played the second leg also.

If true - bit of a shocker. I would have expected Scollari to keep Carvalho. We're losing our best defender and one of the best in the world.

Does this suggest a complete makeover - Lampard and Carvalho, both 30 .. leaving.

Are we going in for a young team? Deco?

we own alcides, but our man in portugal assures us that alcides is nowhere near good enough to replace riccy, and therefore the article in rubbish.

id expect alex to replace carvallho when/if he leaves. i hope he stays as for me hes the best defender in europe. fantastic reader of the game. and i love it when he decides hes a winger and buggers of up the pitch after a corner.

No f*cking way that this can happen. Alcides is miles away from Carvalho class and Alex is also way better.

Just because Alcides is not as good as Riccy - doesn't mean Riccy doesn't want to join Inter. How can the fact that he's not good enough mean Ricardo might not leave?

It's on goal.com FFS, not the most credible of sources and no one is going to believe it until there is some credible info. BUT .. if Jose wants his player and Ricardo wants to then he might well be on his way.

I'm quite surprised that the club hasn't released a statement on Lamps, Riccy and Drogba - not to mention Sidwell and SWP.

the point is that we would not replace riccy with alcides if he were to leave.

and frankly, he's not jose's player, nor is lampard, nor is drogba, nor is essien. I'm not thrilled with him and inter openly discussing chelsea players under contract.

we've already said drogba's future is uncertain (bruce buck has, anyway), and we all know lamps is in the position of strength re his future, but riccy has years left, and has expressed (amongst other things, true) that he is looking forward to working with scolari.

alcides' quotes appear to be legitimate...but my question is how the hell he knows that riccy is leaving? maybe the board would've told him so, but why would they unless its 100 pc certain that carvalho is leaving? ::confused::

If this guy had been 'pulling up trees' then we would have heard all about it.

I really do not see how he is 'ready' to take over from one of the worlds top 5 defenders.

I doubt his claiming to be a direct replacement in the sense of sloting right into Carvalho's position and start playing his role within the side, but more a case of a defender is leaving and will be replaced with a new defender with other defenders at the club like Alex stepping up to take a greater role.

I don't beleive he would come out and say "i'm comming in to replace Carvalho" publicly unless he honestly beleived Carvalho was leaving that that he'd be at the club next season.

PS. I'm however willing to bet he got wrapped accross the nuckles a bit for speaking out like that while the transfer is being negotiated. It's not a smart thing to come out with when you are trying to negotiate a good transfer fee in exchange for one of the world's best central defenders.

Alcides was really one of the worst PSV players last season so I don't believe he will be part of the 11 next season. And he usually played left back, never central defence (Thank god for that!)

  • 2 weeks later...
Can't see us playing two big lads like JT and Terry together much next (or any season).

I can't see that happening either...unless the scientists have made a significant breakthrough in human cloning. :jumping0007: :jumping0007:
