Gareth Barry As A Lamps Replacement

just read some crap blog where the rumor is that we will release Lampard to Inter for 20 million and then snatch Gareth Barry as a straight replacement -- things falling apart with O'Neill, Liverpool being too cheap, he's younger than Lamps, English core of the club, etc. etc. sounds like a fairly interesting solution, one that I can't believe had even crossed my mind before.

plus, it would stick it to the scum, where Barry has seemed destined to land for the past 6 months.

it might already be too late for such a deal, but makes for good fodder.

he's good, but totally, completely not needed. also a step down in class in comparison to lamps, ballack and essien, and I'd much prefer we play mikel than buy barry- if he's not better already, he will be with games.

I agree with those here: if we lose Lamps, we dont need anyone to replace him. I like Barry and think he is useful, but I dont think he is top quality material, and certainly nowhere near Lamps.

I would rather see Liverplod blow their transfer kitty on him, get stuck with Alonso, and have to sign more garbage wingers on the cheap

i like barry i reckon he's quite a useful player but wouldnt want him at the bridge

i reckon if lamps does go, essien could probably get us a lot of goals, if he played the role lampard plays for us, perhaps not as many as lampard but you never know (its just me thinking out loud) i'll get me coat

I don't think there is anything Essien CAN'T do. I'm convinced we can put him anywhere and he could be one of the best in the world.

Has no one realised that we won't really need - but we definitely want one! - a replacement for Frankie?

Think about it.

We would have, if Lamps goes: Essien, Ballack, Deco, Mikel, Maka, Joey Cole, Malouda, Kalou and Wright-Phillips that play as midfielders at the moment.

Joey Cole is certainly not a winger. We put him just behind the striker(s) with Ballack, Essien and Deco in midfield. It'll be like a 4-3-1-2, with the 3-1 being

...Essien.....Deco....Ballack

..............Joey Cole

Kalou could fill in if Joey is injured as Kalou is actually a striker. Any of the 3 midfielders are absent, Mikel, Maka or even SWP (Everton in the CC anyone?) could fill in a position there. Then there's Malouda if we're completely down on players to play on the left or right of midfield, to supply his completely useless crosses! It's fool proof!

Then if that formation doesn't work, put Deco in Joey's position, Essien in the middle and Joey out on the right! Or possibly, Ballack in Joey's position and Joey on the left!

I hope Scolari is listening...

RBJ, I agree with you, and I think that we will allow Frank to leave and not buy a replacement (outside of Deco, of course) but I think Joey's spell out wide for so long has kind of ruined him a little bit. I dont know if he would be capable of fitting behind the strikers and playing like that. But I guess since he holds the ball and shoots plenty from teh outside, not much might change. Who knows

In addition to being real quality on his day, Eidur was a true blue in his heart.

I have to think knowing how his trip to Barca turned out he never would have left Chelsea, all things considered. I would take him back in a flash

He left because Jose plays with a big striker and no support striker. same with Crespo, same reason why Sheva never blossomed under him.

Jose would vary his tactics, but his 433 was very successful and needed specific types of players.

Shame...but back to back titles...waddya gonna do! :D
