I know a Blackburn fan at work, and he says that Bentley was a show-pony who only played when given the ball. Frankly he is chuffed that Blackburn got so much, but pissed that £7m of it went to the Arse.

I remember a game at the Bridge a few years back when we played Norwich and slaughtered them about 4-0 I think, but Bentley really stood-out in a very poor team, has always been a player I've sort of kept an eye on since. He was no show pony that day a worked really hard for his team. He's always impressed me whenever I've seen him, and scored a hatrick at Old Trafford the day after Arsenal released him. Will always be a poor mans David Beckham I suppose.
August 1, 200816 yr delighted we didn't go for him. I'm not too sure how we're going to 'set our stall' out this season, and I'm not too sure if he'd have fitted in, but I'm certain he'd have offered more to us as a winger than SWP and Malouda have over the past year.

I dont rate him any higher than SWP and Malouda.. both have looked brillaint at lesser clubs than Chelsea, and I reckon Bentley would be the same and has not done much at England level. Just makes me laugh that he can mention himself in the same breath as Gazza, that's just deluded
August 1, 200816 yr Bently is the classic case of a useful English player overhyped to the point of madness. It just demonstrates the lack of sense that Spurs have in paying so much for him. And I dont think that type of statitic outside winger would ever fit in our system, to be honest

I agree with that, but he's a class below what we should be aiming for IMO (if scolari wants wide players)... and £17m... that's the kind of fee that annoys you, right? it's a lot of money for a player at that standard. we should be more ambitious than looking to sign players who can merely contribute more than swp and malouda. we should look for players who can contribute more or equal to our best, not our worst. that's how to improve. I also think given his relative lack of pace, we couldn't use him and joe in a 433, it would have to be one or the other- and joe for me is a far superior player, and crucially works much harder. don't get me wrong, he's a talent, but there is a reason wenger let him go, which is that he isn't quite good enough. spurs is his level.

August 3, 200816 yr the amount paid for him is ridiculous, but what are Villa hoping to get for Barry? Again a decent player, who is English, so gets an astronomical fee attached to them for no good reason Scott
