That's your opinion and you can hold it. Me and many others think he's been the best player in midfield by far. Clearly the only one who's doing any work defensively and have intercepted Arsenal on numerous occasions.

This is true. Essien was very rarely used as the DM, he was box to box. I think every side we have had that won major titles have had a pure DM. Makelele/Mikel for Mourinhos titles, Mikel for Ancelottis, Matic for Conte and Jorginho for Tuchel's. All four extremely good players as well but especially Mikel and Jorginho have mostly been extremely underrated

I'll back you on this. From some of the fan accounts i follow on Twitter it does seem that many see this as a positive. That he won't shout at the players, and specifically the youngsters, that he doesn't throw anyone under the bus, that he's so nice et cetera. I guess it's a nice change of pace for some but the best managers hate losing and will kill any player that doesn't meet the standard. And thats how it needs to be at a club like ours in my opinion. And every successfull manager we have had have had that killer instinct to them.

Agree with that. Think the smartest thing to do for tomorrow is overload the midfield to win that battle. So i would go with Kovacic, Mount, Gallagher and Jorginho all on the field. We are on a run of four games in the league though where Potter have scrambled to switch formations at half time or before. If that happens again tomorrow there is simply no excuse. So players need to step up here but the manager is who needs to step up the most tbh.

For example Frank Lampard played in nearly 80 games for club and country back in 04/05. Perhaps some will come close but it's unlikely none of our players will surpass that number for us this season. So I am not sure how true it is that everyone plays so much more football now. They've given things fancier names like Nations League instead of friendlies but everyone knows its the same thing. Not to mention that recovery is much more advanced these days than it was 20 years ago.

The way we play reminds me of how we looked under Lampard. We are far to open defensively and Arsenal would have really punished us if we were facing them yesterday.

Arsenal beats us worse than Brighton did if we play like this against them. Even Zagreb are finding openings everywhere and they are a poor team.

Why do we defend so deep against Zagreb at home? We should have 80% possession against a team of this caliber at the Bridge but we are far too happy to let them have the ball.

We had a decent period between minute 23 and 45 in the first half against a really poor side who were wide open defensively. One could easily identify that a decent team would beat us if we played the same way in the Premier League. And Brighton did exactly that. Also why Villa, Brentford and United easily dominated us for as long as we used that crap formation Potter is trying to implement. Isn't it funny how we at least look half decent when we switch to a 4-2-3-1 or similar? Potter have scrambled to switch to that at half time or before for about a month now and yet he keeps lining up in that disasterous quasi back three.

Lots of us concluded that Brighton would trash us if we played the same way against them. It wasn't a good performance at all against a poor side. Why can we identify that a better side would trash us if we played similarly and someone who's paid £12 million a year can't? And Gallagher already admitting our opponents wants it more is laughable isn't it? Potter is just in the door and everyone should be fired up to prove themselves to the new manager and he still can't get them motivated for a vital Premier League game?
