Nicolas Jackson - striker
I'm not a Jackson hater by any means. He's a much better player then some on this thread are will to give him credit for, but having the burdan of goals from the striker positon entirly on his sholduers could cost us CL this season. Over the course of this run he's had chances to put games to bed for us in at least 3/4 of these games. He lacks a bit of a strikers instinct in terms of his in the box movement so when the other parts of his game our failing this really stands out. We need to reinforce, a Grioud like player right now would be massive for us

Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*
I have mixed feedlings about Noni and honestly see him eventually sold but he put jackson on a plate at least once yesterday, often had multiple men to beat, he didn't have a flying full back out side him to take a man away. If your striker converets you have a hell of an assist there

yeeeeaaaahhhh.... jackson played a big part in us not winning that game yestrday

It also assumes that you are sure that the first lifeboat is indeed better in the first place... it's been a good old while since I've seen the HMS Gusto have a decent day out and I'm not sure that Amempong shouldn't get the nod at the moment. Moving away from the analogy at 1-0 it was pretty clear that we weren't going to hold them and I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I benefited from that foresight financially. Jose would have thrown on Obi One and we could have all put our feet up. Maresca has impressed me, I'm eating a lot of humble pie right now (although I'm reserving a slice or two until he's actually won something) but while he laments the lack of game management from his players, he is actually the first guilty party of that last week. 10 minutes to go, all the traffic going one way, plug the dam midfield, tell the full backs to hold. Leave the wingers up as an outlet and bring Guehi on to run at everything.

Jadon Sancho
You mean because his method of taking someone on from a standing start is not to just kick the ball agasint them?

Jadon Sancho
Think he was misprofiled at united as a speed merchant, probably why it didn't work out for him. He's probably the slowest of the 4 but similar to palmer his touch and thought process is well ahead. I actually think he's a far better option for low blocks

Agreed - but he did prevent the enzo booking. Ive mentioned it earlier in the thread but do you not think that In general this season when he's not scoing you feel him far less, compared to last season where he seemed to drop deep a lot, be heavily invovled in build up play but would often fluf his lines at the crtical moment. ... just wondering how much of that is coming from Maresca. Regardless I'd like to see Nkuku start on Sunday , I don't think it's a bad ting for Jackson to have a rest.

One day the truth will out and we will find a story of biblical-like proportions behind the Jackson-Jim relationship

SofaScore was once a client of mine... you really don't want to use their scoring algorithm for any meaningful discussion. I think there was game last year where they scored one of the monoco twins as the best rated player and they we'd conceded 3 or so goals..

can we get a duckworth lewis for the fact he only play's in the premier league at the moment? very few strikers have ever managed 40 prem goals

Nicolas Jackson - striker
I wonder - is there an amount of goals Jackson can score this season that disqualifies the subjective eye test - right now he's better than 1 in 2. If he hits 20+ this season do we have to hold our hands up and say you know what, I don't understand it but fair play. When I watched JFH and I found him hugely frustrating, many thought we had a top top striker on our hands, and what I saw was a limited goal scorer and didn't believe we would ever win anything big with him (lovely guy though) turns out Jose thought the same. So I completely get the idea that goals might not be enough, I personally do think that Jackson plays a very important role in the team overall... could we get better perhaps, always worth putting that caveat in.

Another Winger! - Noni Madueke
Ideally we are getting to the point where those positons are really interchangeable in terms of recource. Throw back to Robben, Duff, Cole and then SWP who didn't really succede but added somthing. Sancho is so good on the ball I would just love to see him shot a bit more

Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea
I think if it's 20 - 25 yeats old and its in the academy network we should no longer be refering to it as a european style of goalkeeping. Maybe it's the coaching thing from this year because im convinced that last year he was plucking everything out of the air. It just takes so much preshure of the defence to have a keeper who's going to pick up anything around the 6 years box. Any way, its not actually the reason i think we need to upgrade.. I just don't consider him to be good enough

Wesley Fofana at Chelsea *Official*
It's unforutnate but as they say availbility is best reliability. I have to say I think I'm less impressed with him then others on here but the main fear is just how injury prone. The dive to the next best option is signficant.

Excepet he was trained in Broighton's youh accadmy and has been in England since the age of 15 so I don't really think that can be an excuse. Also did your see Martinez grab that cross out of the air (he hurt his back but still) Ederson and Alison, niether of who are giants seem to be pretty decent at it. Strangely I actually thought it was one his strong ponts last year but this season seems to elect to punch much more

Id say punching when catching would be easier but overall he was decent today

Josh Acheampong
Such a shame because the run of Confrence league games he could ahve right now would be great dev

I think there is a big differnce between being the best of our best and good enough. He might be the first but is not the latter. And I'm not convinced he's better then Jorgensen

He has vastly imprvoved in the air... that is my argument

Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea
Please tell me what he's very good at - 1-1 is awful, shot stopping is about what i'd expect for a proffesional goalkeeper, if not that he should be considering another job

Save % doesn't factor in the difficulty of shots or more importantly how many of those goals came about because of keeper ineptidue. I can give him Zero credit because in the entire season I have not seen a game saving perfromance from him. One of the reasons we are inviting so many shots is the team shape is affected by his ability to distribute the ball, noramlly ends in it coming straight back. He lacks concentration, he is riddled with mistakes and his shot stopping is so so with occational good save. You can't compare outfield players to goalkeepers the same way, striker misses a sitter he might get another chance, goalkeeper mistakes cost games in a much bigger fasion. It's why IMO its the toughest postion on the pitch. But he's average, lets not hide behind stats. If you are confident please tell me what games he's pulled out saves that you thought, you had no right saving that - Neto's goal agasint arsenal being an example, in XT terms it probably didn't move the needle, it was a low % chance and he skill converted it. You pay the money for players to do the things that set them aside... nothing Sanchez does, does that
-
Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea
How can you possibly quantify that? You'd have to say definitively that the saves he's made couldn't be made by another keeper. For me, the Forest save is the only one I'd be willing to say was top top class. He was beaten far too easily against Arsenal. He regularly invites pressure, has started punching when it's easier to catch. He has directly cost us a number of goals with his off-balance passing and awful reading of the game. Even 20 years ago when keepers were just keepers, he wouldn't have been top tier

My I add put out a thought.. (I will) I'd say in general Jackson has much less impact on games then last season, in terms of coming deep, making play etc. A bit part of his game last year was pulling out on to the wings alot and I think he got a fair few assists from that. He also dropped in to center mid and would start counters with a smart turn. Both of those seem to be way down this season, The heat maps below seem to support this (although a smaller sample set this season so far) So i'm wondering how much of it is maangement instrcution. As for things like making runs in behind, I think one of the reasons we saw Felix is because of an appreciation there wouldn't be a lot of space in behind.. What a cross for Noni though! In other news, I spent the morning yesterday with a Galatasaray fan, they are in love with Osimhen.. convinced he'd be excellent in the Prem"
