We definitely need another midfielder. Essien looks to be finished and Mikel just isnt good enough. Looks like McEachran and Romeu will develop into top tier MFs but still . . . thats Ramires, McEachran, Romeu, Meireles with Lampard contributing here and there. 5 players (1 of them has very limited number of games in him) competing for 3 spots. Modric deal appears to be dead, so we are hopefully looking elsewhere.

Of course hes a team player. Just because hes not marking and tackling doesnt mean hes out there doing nothing. He has to keep moving so hes open at all times and has enough space to do his thing. If kalou and malouda had half of matas vision and passing ability id certainly forgive them not tracking back. And just how deep does mata need to track back? If hes chasing nani all the way to our backline then what good is he on the counter attack? Hed be too far from our forwards If i was the manager id pretty much relieve mata, our most creative player by far, of any defensive responsibilities

IMO he should not have many defensive duties. He should always be looking to be away from opposition players. if hes marking them tightly then every chelsea counter attack will be slowed down if it goes through him. He should be free to receive the ball even if chelsea arent the one in possession

I think it is the right thing to do. There were some obvious, game changing slip ups from the refs and that cant be denied. So it is a good way to put pressure on the refs in the future chelsea matches. Theres a good chance the refs will be overly cautious not to make future bad calls against chelsea.
