I think it does all depend on if we get Rooney. Should we fail in another bid, I honestly think Torres will be our first choice. If we get Rooney, it could be a case of it being Rooney, then Lukaku, then Torres. Or Torres could even find himself fourth choice if Lukaku and Ba start delivering. Given Rooney could well end up costing us 40 million (from what I've heard) we'll probably use him to lead the line. Unless he's garbage.

I'm basically just bored of it all. I read on SSN that Jose intends to build his team around Torres and get the best out of him and I just thought 'Great. Cos no manager's ever tried that before.' I know Jose can work miracles, I have no doubt, but I'm just fed up of it all now, it's the same story every season. 'Will Torres start firing?' 'Can the new manager get him back to his best?' It's turning into the Fernando Torres Show. It's almost as though it isn't about Chelsea anymore. I am still hoping we can pull off a coup and sign Rooney. Cos if we fail to, I'm actually not too confident the strikers we have can win us the league. Ba isn't consistent enough, Lukaku is young and inexperienced and Torres went six whole months without scoring in the league last season.

Not going to say I agree there. I had that feeling last season. And the season before that. Hopefully I'm wrong. Either way I just hope we can sign Rooney.

Yeah, that all makes sense to me. I personally don't understand WHAT goes through Torres's head to be honest. Simply because he goes on about thriving on competition but after our CL win he was throwing his toys out the pram on the happiest night of our history because he was benched in favour of Drogba. Let's face it he was going on about wanting to be our main man and our number one and if we didn't make him that he would have to 'reconsider his future'. But now he's saying he thrives on competition. It all seems a bit confusing to me.

Yeah I was of the opinion he should stay but that's mainly cos I'm a fan of him as a footballer, always have been. However, I'm thinking about it from a more rational and unbiased point of view now and I would have to say I think we should freshen up our forward line completely. Use Lukaku and hopefully Rooney and see how that works out. Obviously it's going to be difficult to get rid of Torres due to his wages and it likely won't happen but I have my doubts that even the brilliant Jose Mourinho can fix Torres. I honestly thought Rafa could but that failed, so all his problems are clearly psychological. It speaks volumes that Torres is now on his fifth manager since he signed for us and is no closer to becoming the goal monster he was at Liverpool. He's improved, sure. But not enough.

I know it's Jose and the man can do anything, but I'm sick of hearing this really. Manager after manager after manager tries to get him back to his best. If Rafa Benitez couldn't, who had him banging them in at Liverpool, I would hand Jose a medal if he manages it. Personally I think it'd be best if we just got rid.

Well I would love to see Rooney at the Bridge this season. But I just don't think it's going to happen.

Yes, apparently he's worried us getting Rooney could mean no regular football for him here and he wants a World Cup place next season. Understandable. It depends on if we get Rooney, though. If we don't, he'll be our main man upfront once more.

I remember reading an article a while back saying that because of his transfer fee and his wages, whether we liked it or not, we were ' pretty much stuck with Torres'. I now hear Liverpool want 50 million for Suarez. I wonder if Arsenal will have the same problem we've had with Torres. It would be quite hilarious given we got enough stick from them about it.

You sound like a Liverpool supporter. We've been saying he'll come good since he signed. He's improved a lot, that's a given. And I think he should stay. But I'm still concerned that we won't sign Rooney or any other striker before the window shuts. Mourinho is a legend but I still won't have confidence that what we have is a title winning forward line.

Liverpool couldn't win the title with Torres even when he was banging in 30+ goals and a hat trick every second game. I don't fancy our chances with him leading our line with him only looking a shadow of the man he was with them.

I'll always be a fan of his, but if we are once again left with Torres leading the line this season after I had so much hope of us signing a big name striker like Cavani or Falcao, I'm going to be really disappointed. He's a lovely guy and a fairly decent player still, but he isn't going to win us the league being our main guy upfront. I have no problem with him staying, but as back up. I sincerely hope more than anything we manage to get Rooney.

Yes but the problem here is that Torres wants to be the main man. He has always made that clear. He isn't happy with being a bit-player. Which is undoubtedly what he will be if we end up signing Rooney. Maybe if we fail to make that signing he will have a bigger role, although I can still see Mourinho using Lukaku should he be scoring goals for us regularly rather than starting Torres. But Torres needs to be starting games and he needs to be our main striker. Isn't this the reason he kicked up such a fuss after the CL win? He says he's all for healthy competition, which is natural, but he wants to be the winner at the end of it.

Well he has to say all this, doesn't he? He can't very well say he plans on selling him. The fact he hasn't called to reassure Torres of his place in the team speaks volumes.

It was. I just waned to share what I saw in the paper today and my thoughts on this season's attack.

Was in the Daily Fail today that Torres realises he'll be the fall guy if we get Rooney but will resist any attempts by us to force him out. He and his family are settled in London now and enjoying it and although he pined to return to Liverpool many times in his first year at Chelsea, he's now determined to see out his contract. Hmmm. Suppose if he doesn't want to go, no one can force him, but it depends on his World Cup ambitions. If we sign Rooney then it's likely Torres will be second or even third choice striker, which isn't going to do well for his WC 2014 hopes of being selected. So it's all a question of just HOW desperate Torres is to stay here. Also, I'm a little alarmed at Jose saying it's Rooney or bust. Should we fail to sign Rooney, and United are certainly being extremely difficult, we can't honestly go into this new season with that forward line. I wouldn't be confident at all.

The Independent was reporting that if we get Rooney then either Ba or Torres will be sold. But it looks like Rooney, bizarrely, is going to stay at United and it would likely be Ba that goes. Even if Ba had scored 40 goals last season it would probably still be him going. i'm okay with Torres staying. I just think that this summer was the ideal time to sell because if he has a s**t season this time around we will never get rid. Whereas he just had a 20+ goal season with us and won the CC Golden Boot.

If he stays mate we'll have all this next season too.

If you read that article, and in today's Mirror, it does clearly say that Mata AND Torres have been called by Mourinho and reassured they are staying.

Told u it was in today's papers. Mind u if Torres will be happy as second or third choice striker then whatever.
