Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
Well I can't say I know Schurle cos I haven't watched him play that much, so I can't comment on him. But if we enter the season with just Torres, Lukaku and Ba I can't say I'm going to be too optimistic cos I don't think any of them are good enough to help us challenge for major honours. If they stay we still need another world class striker. Though if we do sign another striker at least one of them should be sold. I'd go with Ba. Though I suspect if we sign another striker Torres will throw a hissy fit cos he won't be number one. I've always liked the guy and he'll always be one of my favourite players but I still think about his behaviour after our CL win and it leaves a rather bad taste.

Transfers that almost happened for Chelsea..
Oh yeah I didn't read the OP, I just commented after seeing the thread title. My bad, sorry. No need for sarcasm all the time, like.

Weren't we close to signing Steven Gerrard from Liverpool at one point?

Anyway I'm beginning to think it will just be Schurrle and Torres up front next season cos we seem to be missing out on every striker we're linked with.

Chelsea Season Review 2012/2013
Will order this from the store online I think. Probably only cut it to the goals because we played so many matches last season. Does it have player interviews though?

Yeah I was probably being a bit kind there.

To be fair, half these football pundits haven't got a clue what they're talking about.

Yeah, Euro 2012 Golden Boot Confederations 2013 Golden Boot I doubt he'll be winning it in the World Cup 2014 though. I think he only scored once in World Cup 2010. He seemed a bit embarrassed picking that award up last night.

I can't believe you started Torres. Thought you wanted to get to the final, mate!

Spain are untouchable anyway. They've won every international competition going for about five years. Except the last Confederations Cup four years ago. It's very likely we'll be seeing the Spanish players celebrating again next week. I don't really have a problem with Spain, but I would like to see another team win it, so I'm backing Brazil. It'd be a nice change.

I would have been very impressed had Torres scored against Italy, simply because Italy are such a solid side. I had a feeling it would be 0-0 cos Spain and Italy matches are generally really tight. It puts things into perspective I suppose given everyone (mostly Torres) was starting to think he was Messi after scoring four goals against Tahiti, who weren't even professional footballers. I'm not knocking Torres, I love the guy. But it does make it clear that it was Tahiti, not Brazil.

I'll say one thing, if he goes, I'm gonna miss this thread.

I'm all for him having a bit more confidence if we do decide to keep him. I'm not going to repeat what I think cos I've said it a few times now so let's leave it at that. I think it's daft that he scored four goals against Tahiti and all of a sudden thinks he's Messi though. In one interview he said 'I am strong, I am comfortable, and very fast on the ball.' Easy there, fella. Let's not exaggerate.

It certainly felt to me like Torres was always playing. Obviously Ba got plenty of games but I just remember often thinking to myself 'Torres is starting AGAIN?' Even after Ba had just scored a brilliant goal or something in the previous match and Torres hadn't done anything of note. Cos we all know he went five months without scoring in the league.

I'd have to disagree with that very much. Torres was starting almost every game for us even when we had Ba at our disposal. The Liverpool game was sandwiched between Fulham and Benfica, and you would have expected Rafa to rotate, but Torres started all three of those games, and played the full 90 in all of them. Also, the FA cup semi against City he came on with about half an hour to go. Whenever he started, he got the whole game more or less and Ba got about five minutes at the end. When Ba started he got hauled off after about an hour and Torres came on for the rest. I'd say Torres definitely got the lions' share of starts last season.

I just hope his good run of scoring for Spain in the CC doesn't convince Roman that he is suddenly the bee's knees again and he should lead our line next season. I think it's best Torres moved on.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
I will take that as a compliment, thanks.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
You'd be right.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
Really? I'm surprised, I still think he's a great player, he just hasn't had the chances at United the past season or so. I say put him up front for us and he'd bang them in.

Jose's Key Objective...
Well yeah, I can see where he's going with this, because for the past two years we haven't made CL qualification easy for ourselves. The season before last we didn't even make the top FIVE and only got into the CL cos we won the trophy. Last season we scraped into third on the last day and only just secured fourth in the penultimate game of the season. I dunno about anyone else, but I could do without those kind of heart attacks every season. I'd rather be securing the Premier League trophy by March.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
Dunno whether this is in the rumours section, it probably is, and I'm probably in the minority that would really like to see Rooney at Stamford Bridge. I have heard that he wants to talk to Moyes about staying at United. Personally I can't understand why, for many reasons. One, he's got bad blood with David Moyes after what went on at Everton. They might have patched things up, but their relationship isn't going to be the same. Two, he's not going to get a game at United cos Moyes will be funny with him and I imagine Van Persie will be leading the line, with Hernandez getting more games than Rooney. Three, his popularity with the United fans has fallen considerably from what I can see. Four, he's already won everything on offer with United and has been there a decade. Would he not love the opportunity for a fresh challenge at Chelsea under Jose? Working with the likes of Mata, Hazard and Oscar? I am sure he'd be an idiot to pass that up.

Is it? Sorry I didn't realise.

I think he'll be staying. But I honestly can't see Jose making him our leading striker. I'd be very surprised if he did.

Well he had his best season in a blue shirt last season.
