We wouldn't be able to shift Torres. No club could afford his wages except City or Real, and he wouldn't go to either.

Well this is just silly, isn't it? We'd be willing to play a big name striker that was globally popular but wasn't scoring enough goals for us, over a little known small time player who is banging them in? Sad times, really. Even though I am aware that is exactly what we have done in offloading great goalscorers like Sturridge and Lukaku and preferring Torres. He is starting to find his feet more now, but you can't insist on being our number one if you can't give us a reason why you should be that.

At the end of the day we are stuck with the options we have until at least January, so let's just get on with it. Apparently we can't recall Lukaku back in January, either. I was p***ed off with this news.

My dad supports Liverpool so I have seen most of the games he played for them, and I can honestly say he has NEVER looked like that Torres here. He's looked hungry at times, and maybe slightly dangerous in some games, but he hasn't looked like the Torres of 2008-09. Nowhere near. THAT Torres left most defenders for dead, skipped round the keeper, and buried every chance in sight. That Torres scored impossible goals from the maddest angles, and made it look effortless. That Torres was bursting with swagger and confidence. I have never seen that in a blue shirt. I've seen fleeting glimpses of him getting back TOWARDS that, but never like that.

I think we all know he's never going to be the goal scoring menace he was at Liverpool, but I'll be happy for him to get us 20 goals a season. Thankfully we have other players that can score goals.

Are you visiting the right parts? There are some VERY bad areas of the city, like there are in every city. But then there are also really nice areas too, like Woolton, Calderstones Park, Grassendale, Aigburth, and Allerton. Then of course there is the Albert Dock and Chavasse Park. Lots of great restaurants, bars and museums. But yeah, if you're talking about places like Tuebrook, Toxteth, West Derby and Stockbridge Village, they are s**tholes for the most part. Doesn't reflect the whole city though, obviously.

Thanks for saying so. I don't support Liverpool or Everton which does get a fair few raised eyebrows around the city but my footballing preference, and anybody's footballing preference, has nothing to do with the place itself. Liverpool is actually a beautifully historic city with a great heritage.

Just because someone is from Liverpool doesn't mean they are all d**ks. I'm a scouser born and bred.

And don't anyone say that Everton are no real threat to us. I genuinely believe they are, especially if they beat City. They are looking red hot, and are still the only team in the league yet to be beaten.

In hindsight, a draw between Everton and City would be the best result for us. An Everton win would ensure that even three points on Sunday would keep us in fifth.

I believe behaviour that doesn't have a place in the game (including clawing at an opposition player's face) deserves suitable punishment, yes. It doesn't matter to me if the player plays for my club. It can't be allowed. Probably is going a bit far to say violent conduct but given players have been sent off for less I'd say Torres is one very lucky man indeed. Apart from the unfortunate knee injury that rules him out, that is. On that note, we just have to hope Eto'o is up to the job, since Ba seems completely out of favour and Everton have our best goalscorer.

Bottom line is, Torres was completely out of order. But he has got off with it so let's hope he's learnt his lesson and Mourinho has warned him to keep his nails down.

I see your point completely, but on the other hand, if I was playing a game of football with a bunch of other players and someone in the opposition came over and clawed at my face, I'd definitely have something to say about it. Or possibly do about it.

I actually think he has a point. Yes, Torres not getting the ban was good news for us, in theory, however I don't believe Torres should have completely got off with it. Let's get it right, had it been the other way around and Vertonghen had done that to Torres, and got off with it, we'd be fuming, wouldn't we? The FA are saying they can't do anything, but the video footage is there of Torres clawing Vertonghen's face with clear malice, so you can't really blame Spurs for feeling aggrieved. I can't stand them, but you have to look at it from their view. The FA are now basically saying that it's okay for players to take chunks out of each other's faces. Cos it's not like they can take action against that behaviour at any point now without looking like utter c**ts.

Well he was banned for the weekend game anyway so maybe he'll have shaken off the knee injury by next week. I do think he was very lucky to escape that ban for that swipe on Vertonghen though. He was wrongly sent off for trying to win the ball but that clawing at the guy's face was just flat out assault. Very lucky boy indeed.

I'm not into loving Everton like you all are, to be honest. I'm a scouser and my Mum, Dad, sister and brother are all reds. I also work as a steward at Goodison so basically I had all my mates who support Everton going 'Cheers for Lukaku, babe. You're not 4th no more.' So basically I'm just pissed off.

Torres looked to be finding red hot form against Swansea two seasons ago and then went and got himself sent off. I hope this isn't history repeating itself. He looked like he used to look in a red shirt on Saturday, in my opinion. That is the best I have seen him play since he signed for us. But the problem he has is that he can't seem to just have a stormer without controversy. He needs to start learning to keep his temper in check, stop diving and fouling (and scratching opponents' faces) and maybe we can have a world class striker on our hands again.

He genuinely looked like he gave a s**t. I just wish he looked like that more often. Two games playing brilliantly so far. Let's see if he can keep it up. I think he feels genuinely threatened he will lose his place in the team with World Cup year coming up. That's what's spurring him on. I wonder what would have happened had we signed Rooney?

There is a drastic improvement in Torres from when he first signed, that much is clear. It's nice to see him finally looking like he gives a s**t. He's out for the next league game which I hope doesn't affect his stride. We may not see the Torres that played in red but we can see a brilliant player, still. I was really impressed with him today. Terrific performance. Pace, quality passing, unlucky not to get a goal. I just wish he'd curb his temper enough to not end up getting himself sent off. He has a really great game and then that happens, despite it being a harsh decision. Dunno what scratching Vertonghan's face was all about.

I want to see Torres have a stormer against a top side in the league. If he plays against Spurs and bangs a goal or two in, with general brilliant overall play, I will start to believe he is getting back to his best. I have to discount a cup game against Swindon Town, and pretty much any other game he's been fantastic in, because, that goal against Bayern Munich aside, the other games were lower league teams in the cups and European lower teams. I'm not saying he hasn't played extremely well against them, he HAS. But the opposition he had excellent games against haven't really been of the world's best, have they? Like I said, if he gets goals against City, Spurs, Arsenal and United this season, then I think maybe we can start talking about a rejuvenation.

I'd be very surprised if Torres started against Spurs, despite his performance against Swindon. He played the whole 90, and I think Jose will start Eto'o. I also have a feeling Eto'o will score.

I would have thought most fans had got onto how it works with Torres now. In Europe and the domestic cups he turns into Messi. In the league it just GETS messy.
