penalties

Featured Replies

as we know from both winning and losing penalty shoot outs, has a team really won a cup final (or a cup game for that matter) if they win on penalties or has a team really lost?

Could there be another way to determine these kind of games? A penalty shootout is just a lottery, they could toss a coin for a similar result.

I disagree. A team with players who are good at penalties will win over a team who are bad at it nine times out of ten.

I wish I could say it's just a lottery seing as we never seem to win on penalties, but I can't.

I see penalties as a test of nerve and it's the only way to finish a knockout game if needed. The only other way to finish a game in a sufficient manner is to keep playing until a goal is scored. But that would be too long a match and it could last an age. So, for me, penalties is the only way of doing it.

Agree with moos, Spurs are sh*te, and their penalty kicks today were eqally sh*tty. United are good, and their penalties were good. It is a tragic way to lose, and rarely works out like it did today, i.e. Moscow where a slip cost us the biggest trophy in the game  .

When two good teams face off in penalties one always leaves disappointed but it has to end somehow.

I totally disagree with the notion that a penalty shoot out is a lottery.

It's the ultimate test of nerve and technique. Taking the safe option and blasting still requires a degree of concentration and ability.

It says a lot that English are the worst of the lot at them!

My idea is after 90 mins are up both teams go down to 10 players. Every 5 mins another player for each team leaves the field. First team to score wins.

Hehe. What if nobody scores? 1 on 1. The keepers against eachother? :(

That's my fave idea as well

Not if you had to submit your order of player removals to the ref in advance. This would have the added 'Ryder Cup-like' excitement of not knowing what your opponents would be up to with their changes, ie they've only got one defender left vs our 3 strikers etc...

Actually, I'm loving this...

a player is through on goal he's one on one with the keeper, a dummy to the left a step over to the right and he's round the keeper, all he has to do now is simply tap the ball WHISTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S OFF. (he was the next man on the sheet and his five minutes are up)

ok thats a worse case senario, but possible, also each player has to make their way off after their time is up, they wont be standing on the edge of the pitch they could even be in possesion of the ball, how do you deal with that, as I said there would be a stoppage every 5 mins for a drop ball.

it's a little like Liverpools defence...to many holes.

That's my fave idea as well

Such finals will completely break players' fitness, because it's not chess.

You have to run here! But yes it's funny. It'll 45 min to left just one player on pitch.

So, being involved during 3 hours Bison won't think much what to do with babe Ronaldo.

"One chance! Do or better dive right here" his eyes will say!
