blueday3
Heskey just scored in the 7', pretty good build up by some nobody, never heard of him. And as I'm typing that Rooney plays in another ball to Heskey which he could have scored from. Edit - I'm not sure about the new kits, not a big fan of all white, they look like tennis players. bjd
I thought Lamps had a great game, played a bit like he did in Croatia. He was very deep but used the ball really , really well. If Carrick had played like that the media would be creaming their pants left right and centre. Watch the 6 out of 10 scores fly in for Frank though. loz
Lampard and Rooney were the stand out players. Slovaks looked awful!
Gem
Frank "History maker" Lampard gets England's 500th goal at Wembley. The media and everyone will all f**king forget (because it isn't their beloved Gerrard or Beckham) - but congratulations to him. (anyway... I think it was the 500th... they mentioned Beckham may get it after Rooney scored... and yet didn't speak of it after Frank did)
loz
Actually that reminds me - Beckham also had a good game. Carlton Cole, Crouch and Heskey all picked up injuries though which leaves us with a potential problem for the midweek qualifier.
Gem
Okay, credit to The Sun for mentioning it. However, on their opinion page, they state "glad England's 500th goal was Gerrard's?" Wishful thinking eh? Shove it up your arse. Bring Gabby Agbonlahor in.
g3.7
good performance, good games from gerrard, lamps and rooney in particular. is also good that cap is finding a way to get the best from our best central midfielder (lampard) and still ensure that our best attacking players (rooney and gerrard) can be effective as well. reduces the number of question marks in the side, although you feel that goalkeeper, lampard's partner, right midfield, target striker and rightback are still positions up for grabs. think it's important that if beckham does take the right midfield spot in the end (IMO he's still the best specialist right sided midfielder we have) that a player like glen plays behind him tp provide some pace and overlapping for him. also think increasingly owen won't be going to the world cup (a shame- even as a sub he should go as he's better than defoe or any other prentender), and joey looks unlikely to be a first choice player, his best hope is to get a chance and take it on the right of midfield. blizeH
On the BBC player rater, Gerrard is currently close behind Rooney as the second best rated player, wtf? lol @ Skrtl's rating too - seems like the scousers have been on the votes again Edited March 28, 2009 by blizeH
loz
I think it is madness not to take Owen to the world cup. Whilst accepting he is not the player he was about 5 years ago he is still the only striker in England I would fancy to come off the bench and poach a goal in a pressure game where a result is imperative. Going to the World CUp with only four strikers and those four being Rooney, Crouch, Heskey and Defoe is frightening (or maybe 5 with the extra beng Carlton Cole or maybe someone like Davies or Bent) I still hear people say Defoe is the answer to England's goal scoring problem but then again I also hear people say they are the second coming, which ones are less sane is up for debate. I also think Capello is making a mistake picking Upson ahead of Woodgate.
g3.7
jagielka has been the best english defender outside of jt and ferdinand this season, but I agree. I'd have them both before upson.
loz
Agree on Jagielka, he has had a fine season however it is maybe a little late in the day for Capello to give him a proper try out at international level. Unless we can secure qualification fairly early (which is very possible if we win midweek) and this allows him to experiment with a few players for consecutive games. Zola's Love Child
Good performance today. Rooney played very well, as did Frank. The back line did their job well, and James look very solid for his 45 minutes. Really gutted to see Carlton go off injured, was really hoping that he could prove he could do it in an England shirt today (same with Heskey really, he's got a lot of unwarranted rubbish thrown at him when playing for England). I was genuinely gutted that the commentators didn't manage to blow their Steven Gerrard is England's Saviour trumpet with a remarkable performance. But still, he didn't play terribly or anything, just didn't get the chance for any Stevie-Me moments. Oh, one other thing. Stop Lampard taking set peices. Please.
