sals
Not sure if this topic has been done but couldnt find it if it has. Im wondering what formation Carlo will try and play this year. Im sure he will try and get rid of Jose's formation that has been seen regularly with the 3 managers since his departure, Just wondering what everyone would like to see/ thinks will happen. rahul
Carlo does not have a history of playing wide, but with Zhirkov, I think that will change. I still think he will go with two deep central midfielders and three attacking midfielders just in front of them. Bossy.....JT.....Alex.....Cole ......Mikel........Essien........ Joe Cole....Lamps....Zhirkov .............Anelka................ At least thats what I wish it should be if we dont sign any other player.
Fido Dido
Its difficult to make us play different formations than we have been playing these past few years as our recent managers have learned . We are at our best depending on DD up front alone . Pre season and our next signing could tell us in which way are we headed .

sals
All the talk of going after another striker though makes me wonder whether he is going to try play two strikers up front, wondering what that will do to the rest of our formation
High Street Ken
I didn't notice how Carlo's previous teams were set up. Can anyone enlighten me? Twin strikers? One holding player? I imagine it will be the usual Italian reliance on defence and possession above all, which means no great change from Jose's masterplan.
Ridiculous
if we dont bring anyone else in we should go with the 4-2-3-1 cech bosingwa terry alex cole mikel essien lampard zhirkov cole drogba/anelka
Eggy McMuffin
I didn't notice how Carlo's previous teams were set up. Can anyone enlighten me? Twin strikers? One holding player?I imagine it will be the usual Italian reliance on defence and possession above all, which means no great change from Jose's masterplan. It was a sort of 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-1-2 formation. Almost a diamond in midfield. If he goes for what he played in Milan we'd end up with something along the lines of Cech Bosingwa Alex Terry Cole Essien Mikel Ballack Lampard Anelka -------- Drogba or Cech Bosingwa Alex Terry Cole Essien Mikel Ballack Lampard Cole Drogba The width coming from the fullbacks and with one of the strikers roaming or in the second formation, one of the attacking midfielders, most likely Cole roaming in a free role. Ruh Buh Juh
Eggy - so signing Zhirkov was totally pointless? And I'm hoping for a 4-1-3-2 style formation. -------------------------Cech ---Bosingwa-------Alex-------Terry------A.Cole -------------------------Essien ---Joey----------------Lampard----------Zhirkov ----------------Anelka ---------------------------------Drogba With the hope that Anelka will be replaced by Pato/Aguero, of course. Eggy McMuffin
Eggy - so signing Zhirkov was totally pointless? :(  The question was posed as to how his previous teams were set up. I answered it, except laid it out with the players currently at Chelsea.

dkw
others will probably know more than me on this, but from what i can see of his time at milan he played a 4-2-3-1 style of play. 2 holding mids with one a creator one a destroyer (pirlo and gattuso), an attacking 3 with one behind a striker and 2 wide and one out and out striker. so for us as our squad is now it would possibly be:- cech Bossy JT Alex A Cole Essien Ballack J cole Zhirkov Lamps Drogba

Ambrosini was usually alongside Gattuso as a destroyer with Pirlo creating. Kaka ahead as an out and out attacking mid and Seedorf roaming just off the striker... usually from the left. A lone striker like Sheva or Inzaghi or more recently Pato.
Captain Haribo
I've not seen much of AC last season, but when I last watched them with any regularity, they played a narrow diamond four, which on paper would look roughly like: -------Pirlo------------- -Gattuso---------Seedorf- ---------Kaka------------- Seedorf got forward with Kaka a fair bit. It's changed a fair bit now, I assume, as Ambrosini is getting regular games and Beckham added a bit of width during his time there. I'd assume that Ancelotti won't change a whole lot in his first season. Possibly dropping one of the central three to accomodate two strikers: Essien and Lampard are strong enough to dominate most teams.
Fido Dido
As far as i can remember Milan have been playing the christmas tree formation for a while now . That is something characteristic to them .
