We sign Zhirkov for 21m € ... Bayern signs Robben for nearly 25m €.

;) ::clap2:: ::clap2::

ridiculous once again ..

Why is this ridiculous ?

Zhirkov hasnt even played for us yet. He is the Russian Player Of The Year, he could be awesome for us.

We all know what you get with Robben. Going on his previous 5 seasons Bayern will be lucky to get 25 games from him this campaign. Robben is good, dont get me wrong but he has no fight and gets injured far too often. Still, im glad he hasnt signed for Man Utd!

Where does this leave Ribery ?

On the plane to Madrid next Summer one would expect...

what a waste of talent

the german league is no where near good enough to showcase the talents the likes of robben and ribery

I dont disrespect Zhirkov in any way, he is a decent player.

But:

1. He is a left midfielder, we dont have that position in our line-up

2. If he would just be a back-up for Ashley Cole this is a totally ridiculous deal, as we just sold Bridge for less. And I really doubt Zhirkov is able to defend well against good wingers

Btw:

Robben had 29 league matches for Real last season, scoring 9 goals. Many Real fans say he has clearly been the best player Real had in the second half of last season

So why are you moaning about us not signing Robben then ?

I just moan about the fact that we pay 21m € for a player like Zhirkov (who we dont really need, you can get a better and cheaper left-back back-up), while Bayern pays 25m € to get Robben. The quality of Zhirkov should be nearly as good as the quality of Robben if you look at those deals but in reality its a huge difference, Zhirkov is a decent left midfielder, Robben with a little bit of luck in terms of injuries, can be on one level with Messi, Ronaldo, etc.

Wouldn't it be better to wait before he's played a few games for us until we make any judgements about the player. I think he has the skills to do well in the Christmas tree formation, either as one of the two players behind the main striker, as the leftsided player in the midfield tree in front of the backline, or as a leftback. I think he's much more versatile than Robben is and although he might not be quite as menacing when it comes to attacking, he's a good creative player with pace and he knows how to defend, which is something you can't really say about Robben. I'm very optimistic about Zhirkov at the moment.

Glad he didn't go to Manu - let's just hope Ribery doesn't now!

Difference is: Robben adds something special to any squad and can decide a match on his own, while Zhirkov is just average in a team like Chelsea

Its not like I dont want Zhirkov to do good here but he and Robben are just on two different levels. And its bugging me that we pay nearly as much for him then Bayern does for Robben

Robben with a little bit of luck in terms of injuries, can be on one level with Messi, Ronaldo, etc.

That's not A LITTLE BIT of luck these days. I'd say it's more like a minor miracle if he can stay fit for any extended period of time. Besides, there's also the sulking that's also an issue. When his head is not right(which happens quite often), he's not much use to a team, even if he's physically fit. I'm not saying Robben is useless, far from it, but there are so many things that prevent him being the player we all know he can be.

You dont think we need a player like Zhirkov ? Hmmm...

I think you should give him a bit more of a chance.

a few facts:

Zhirkov has played 66 games for ZSKA in the russian league for the last 3 years, scoring only 6 goals.

Robben has played 71 games for Real and Chelsea in the last 3 years, scoring 13 goals.

To that you should know that Zhirkov only played 10 games last season, scoring once.

Average? We've seen him play in one(ONE=1) per-season match so far and you have decided he's average in a team like Chelsea. We're talking about one of the players of tournament from last European Championships. I didn't see Robben in the team of the tournament. He was also on the recent Ballon d'Or short list. Didn't see Robben there either.

The footage i have seen of Zhirkov from playing in Rusia,he looks every bit as good as Robben;all he has do to is get match fit,and oust Malouda as starting on the left.

Youtube footage of a decent midfielder playing against teams like Kuban Krasnodar and FK Khimki. Even Malouda would be able to shine...

I hope Im wrong but I just cant see how Zhirkov can really help us. Not at left-back, not at left midfield (position that we dont have). And playing him in the middle ?? Correct me if im wrong but has he ever played there ? And even if we already have enough players there ..

Is that why he was voted the player of the season? I think you've looked at the stats for the current 2009 season which still hasn't finished(and was on a break when we signed him) which would explain quite handily why he has played only ten matches. And if we want to just stare at the stats, we could look at his stats at Chelsea so far: one goal in one match. But we all know stats are not everything-

Besides...it's not all about goals. If he was a striker I'd say it would be more important, but for wingers/wide players it's also very much about assists to goals and decisive passes and that is something Zhirkov has provided plenty of.

You are right, I forgot about that. ;)

Thats ridiculous , the season had only just started when we signed him!!!! I suspect they had only played around 10 games anyway!

we have malouda and zhirkov

wtf he want to leave us

and now going down to down

That could be a Radiohead lyric.

i can't believe this is even being debated

zhirkov might well be a very good player but arjen robben is the best winger in the world

and i'll stick up for german-blue here. 4 million euro extra? i'd have been far happier at getting robben back for that
