I had Micrsoft Security Essentials but everytime i turned my laptop off it would say it needs to be updated and today i turned it on and the security was off for no reason, i uninstalled that and got avast, which seems to be good and has got a lot of good reviews on different websites so any recommenddations???

Avira Antivar is one of the best anti-virus programmes. I use Comodo firewall and also have Spybot S&D and SUPERantispyware for cleaning up.

... Spybot S&D

That is good that, it finds malware and stuff that others don't see.

For anti-virus protection, I don't think you can go much wrong with AVG. It scans all mail too during sending/receiving too and is very resource-light. Make sure you get the free one though as there is also a premium one.

and Spybot that dkw posted about

I would stay away from AVG if i was you, its been getting a lot of stick lately for its low capture percentage. Seemingly in a lot of tests its missing loads of pretty high level viruses that other free ones are finding with ease.

Really? Point me in the direction, it caught a snide one on mine a few weeks ago.

I would of said Comodo Firewall is pretty open and it takes over the system asking permission for everything. I just use the windows one.

Not seen Avira though, what's that like?

Avira`s very good, ive been impressed. Comodo is very intrusive at first, but once you set the rules ive found it very good at stopping incoming sh*te. Cant find the article i read on AVG though, bugger.
