England have suffered a blow ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro after John Terry was ruled out with a back injury.

Terry had been struggling in recent weeks with a rib problem, but now he appears to have picked up a fresh injury whilst with England.

The Football Association has confirmed that Terry has returned to Chelsea for treatment and will not be involved at Wembley on Tuesday.

The news is a huge blow to coach Fabio Capello, who has already lost Phil Jagielka from his his original squad.

Gary Cahill was called up to replace Jagielka, and he will now compete with Joleon Lescott to play in central defence alongside Rio Ferdinand as there will be no new call-ups at this time.

Terry is the third player to withdraw from the initial squad after Aaron Lennon also pulled out to be replaced by Stewart Downing.

He'd better be back for Villa or we are screwed

Really hope he's fit for the Villa game if he isn't, it's time for Bruma to prove his worth.

Delighted he won't be playing for that shower though. They don't deserve him.

What worries me with him and Alex out it probably does mean Bruma and Iva at CB against Villa, they are very good in the air and from set pieces too. We also have a bad record there looks like everythings falling into place for Villa.

JT's back problem has been a recurring this for years - doesn't usually keep him out for too long, think he'll be okay for Villa.

I doubt Bruma would play if Terry were injured. It's much more likely that Ivan would slide in the center with Ferreira on the right.

edit: Nevermind, I forgot Alex was injured. This is problematic. Anyone know if Bosingwa is going to be fit for this game? Or at the very least fit enough for the subs bench?

But we have both Alex and JT out. Ivan can replace one of them, but who will replace the other? Bruma would be our only choice.

Cole - Ivan - Bruma - Ferreira.

Almost sounds like something we'll use against a small team in the Carling Cup.

Mikel's gonna have to really cover them if this is the case.

I might be wrong (I usually am), but didn't his problems start after he had the surgery a few seasons ago? Or did he have the surgery because of his back problems? If so, it hardly did any good, did it?

I just hope Carlo doesn't play Ferreira at CB and Bosingwa on the right (If JT isn't fit). That would be disastrous.

Paulo had a very good game against Villa at the Bridge last season and Bosingwa put in one of the worst defensive performances of the season at Villa Park last year. I wouldn't rush him back into the team yet.

Ferreira Bruma Ivanovic Cole

That's good enough to deal with anything Villa have upfront IMO.

As much as I don't rate him Heskey will give Bruma trouble for sure

I hope this is seen as a "sure thing" for the England team, and Terry is just being rested. Kinda like when Stevie Me was almost always injured in any of England's qualifiers, but suddenly fine for the weekend games for Liverpool

Don't really think Bruma is ready to start a game, much less against a decent team like Villa.

Still, JT's tough. He'll be ready.

I hope you're right, but I doubt it. Usually when players get "injured" and "unfortunately" miss a game for England it's the club that finds the injury. This time we sent JT to the national team and then during a practise he gets injured and it's the England medical staff that says he can't play.

That tells me we didn't plan this.

The best we can hope for is that it's just a minor injury that will allow him to play again soon.

If JT is out then Bruma should play. If he doesn't then we may as well sell him. He's a Dutch international who we obviously rate very highly. We have to have belief in our convictions. It is how the younger players will break through.

Have to agree with that

Agree 100 % ... If we don't trust our most promising youth player ( Bruma ) , then that is not going to do anything good to him ..

If Terry is injured , we will have to start with Bruma for sure ....
