January 12, 201114 yr Hahaha... every month we are linked with him, every month we are prepare to offer money for him....
January 12, 201114 yr Quality player, but a Frank Lampard replacement?! He's scored 1 goal in 24 games this season.
January 12, 201114 yr Quality player, but a Frank Lampard replacement?! He's scored 1 goal in 24 games this season. Frank only managed 24 in 147 for wet spam. Anyway, I'm still not keen on this whole like for like replacement idea. Man Utd still don't have a Roy Keane type player, a David Beckham type player, an Eric Cantona type player, the list goes on... Barcelona haven't got a Rivaldo, a Ronaldo (I suppose you could argue that Villa fits that). They've still managed to be fairly successful, though. Just because a player plays like another, doesn't mean he'll be as good... It's like signing Kenwyne Jones and expecting him to be as good as Drogba. We'll probably never have a Frank Lampard style 20 goal a season central midfielder, but would replacing him with Xavi or Iniesta make us a worse side? Personally I don't see Josh scoring 20 goals a season, but I see him becoming a top level midfielder, possibly at Lampard's level if not better. He could play the same position, but if he did, he'd do it in a different way, and I don't see that making the side worse in any way.

My maths skills arent brilliant Eggy, but I think 1 in 24 is less than 1 in 6..... :) But I agree with you, I hate this "new player x" sh*te that seems to be labelled on each player. I can remember at least 6 "new Maradonna`s" in the last 10 years.
January 12, 201114 yr Agreed about the 'new...' bit which is why I said what I did, but I still think we do need someone to step in and replace Frank Lampard, not in a direct sense (as in we need a player just like him - we won't find one, simple) but we do need something who can offer something similar to him in terms of the creativity, the ability to drift into good positions and split open a defence with a killer pass, and yes admittedly someone like Pjanic could fit the bill nicely.
January 12, 201114 yr I think there is already a thread on him, and yeah, he doesnt really play much like Frank. But IMO he is just the kind of player we need. Young (20) greyhound of a winger whose bread and butter is kick and run, and beating fullbacks on with his pace. From what I have seen he is like Theo Walcott but even younger. But since Lyon own him, I dont expect we will see him go for anywhere under 20-22 million. So that would probably rule us out then.
January 12, 201114 yr There won't be another Frank Lampard, just like there won't be another Terry or Drogba. But hopefully there'll be other players, hopefully young and talented, who'll bring their own qualities. Pjanic is an interesting option, although I admit I only watched him a few times. Whether there's something to it, or it's just another unsubstantiated rumor, these are the kind of players I'd rather be looking at - young, promising, hungry to prove themselves on a big stage.
January 12, 201114 yr I'm sick of new Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Maradona, Pele, Batistuta, etc... every player who's compared with biggest player in world at the end become sh*t. Remember that Di Santo was 'New Crespo'
January 12, 201114 yr im not sure why they say the new lampard cause this kid plays nothing like frank he is a cacking player and would love him at chelsea i have mentioned this befor he could play the creative postion we need
