Biggest Fanbase in London?

Featured Replies

I've been arguing with some delusional Spuds on the BBC forum that genuinely seem to think they have a bigger fanbase than not only us, but also Arsenal which I'm 99% sure is completely ludicrous. Their own website claims they have 20 million fans worldwide (which I personally think is bull anyway) and an article from the BBC said that ours was around 90 million.

I personally don't understand how you measure a fanbase?

I would honestly say out of the major London Clubs, from my experience I'd rank the overall fanbase of each club as the following:

1. Arsenal

2. Chelsea

3. Spurs

4. West Ham

5. QPR

Others are an irrelevance :indifferent0018:

Any one have any views on this as to who they think has the larger fanbase?

Somebody posted this before, it gives a very rough idea of the fanbase of various London clubs. Obviously it's not deadly accurate, for example, Arsenal have (or did have) a large following in the Bromley area, and quite a few Spuds came from the Hackney area.

Without being biased, I'd say Chelsea had the largest fanbase in London, simply because we've got the largest support in both the south and west of the capital. Don't take much notice of that large purple blob around the Croydon area, Crippled Alice couldn't get that many fans if they paid them to attend :D

I work in Bromley - it's mainly Palace fans. Bexley (my borough) is def Charlton... so that map does have a ring of truth to it.

Arsenal first, then it's between us and Spuds, with West Ham a clear 4th.

The rest just make up the numbers, despite what a QPHa fan will tell you.

I'd say that's pretty accurate, although I live in the Merton borough (which is supposedly Chelsea/QPR) and I can honestly say I've only ever come across one QPR fan, I'd say Arsenal is the 2nd team here and West Ham 3rd, almost no Spuds around here

The other thing you need to think about is whether you're trying to compare the fanbase of London clubs within the city itself or if you want to look at who has the biggest fanbase nation/worldwide. If you look at the diagram Bluebeard has posted, it looks to me like West Ham and Arsenal have a similar size fan base however if you look at it on a wider scale then that will likely change.

nationwide/worldwide as well.

I'm sure it would still be us and Arsenal, with Spuds lurking behind and then West Ham behind them

If they would have included manure in that map, then the map would change a lot.

You stole my thunder...was going to say that...with the amount of man u shirts walking around this city for christ sake!!!

Have to disagree there mate. I live in Bromley. It's a mixture of arsenal, Chelsea, a few tottenham and lots of

Millwall. Some palace as well.

Blue is the colour!

Totally agree there. I watched the second leg in a pub called The Field in Mayfair. About 10 Chelsea in there and over 100 man u.

Disgraceful!

Arsenal because they are the biggest team in London, so it's natural they get fans from all over

Followed by West Ham because apart from pockets of Orient, they have the whole of E LDN

Our hotbed seems to be West (obviously) where we mix it with Foolham, QPRse and Bentford, and South with Palarse.

Considering the big clubs are all north of the river, Chelsea definitely have the edge in South London support.

I was born in Battersea, grew up around Tooting, went to school in Sutton.

For me, it could've been Palace for a bit, but my best mate was Chelsea, his dad took us to a few games, so I made the right decision.

I live in East London now, which is a nightmare as blue sticks out like a sore thumb among the claret+blue and the black+white in the pubs round here.

Totally agree, living in Morden/Wimbledon it's clear that us and Arsenal are the best supported teams south of the river.

Man U fans do not count as football supporters.

Ignore their presence, they're watching the game for completely different reasons than real supporters, a bit like when you watch Strictly Come Dancing with the wife/gf, you're not watching it because you like or know anything about ballroom dancing, you're just looking at the girls in short skirts.
