Away match allocations

Featured Replies

I’m mulling over getting a membership for this season but as I rarely am free at weekends and with the ticket costs and so on I am not sure if it is worth it. And after looking at the details for Sunderland I feel even less inclined to get a membership. What chance can I have of getting a ticket when we only have 1941 tickets to go round?

I’m sure that we have had bigger allocations up there in recent seasons. Have away allocations been shrinking year by year? And is 1900 tickets pretty much the standard away from home?

It looks like a trip to Blackburn (date depending) is my only hope of getting to a game this season. Lord knows what us northern based non-season ticket holders would do if Blackburn were to get relegated.

I am in the same boat. I have already booked train tickets for Sunderland but am a bit disappointed allocation is only around 2,000. I'm sure they've given us more than that on midweek nights. As if Sunderland fans will fill 45,000 seats.

With home attendances declining I can't see why away fans aren't given more.

i think you will find that the club were offered the statutory 3000ish but would have to pay up front for these and would lose money if they were not all sold.hence they go for the lower amount....we do sometimes struggle to sell out at places like sunderland , newcastle etc.unless we are on a real run of form or something hinges on it..dont be surprised if when the initial allocation sells out quickly, more suddenly become available.Places like wigan and blackburn will do it slightly differently because they are desperate for every body through the door and there will always be up to 4/5000 available.

I dont think it would be a struggle to get a ticket for sunderland being just a member.

I do think the away allocation we give at stamford bridge is too much though. For big games we offer nearly 4000 i think. Compare that to utd who have over 30 000 more seats in the stadium and only give 3 000 for league games.

our away allocation is either 1500 or just under 3000 depending on how many the away club is looking to bring..

also, im pretty sure sunderland got in trouble for failing to control away fans from clubs who like to stand and are forced to reduce their allocations...

pathetic if you ask me, but thats modern day football.. thats another debate though...

Totally agree. We get just shy of 3,000 at United and Arsenal who have significantly larger stadiums. Fans at SB should only get 2,000 tops.

3,000 for Old Trafford is blind robbery considering they have a 75,000 seater + stadium.

its all down the prem tho, not the individual clubs..

all clubs are told the minimum amounts they must supply away teams so for obvious reasons, they aint gonna give you more than the rule states?

900 extra tickets now available for sunderland .As I said it is down to the individual clubs.....this time chelsea. They were unwilling to stump up for the full 3000 in case they were only gonna sell 2000.As the initial 2000 sold in less than 2 days(members) then they see it as less of a risk and so pay for the rest of the allocation that the premier league stipulates.3000 is considered the norm and segregation issues will always be raised if 3000 does not meet the required percentage for away fans..In the FA cup a bigger percentage is always offered. eg Leeds taking 12k to old trafford a couple of years ago, chelsea taking 5k to coventry/barnsley etc.Teams like Wigan and Blackburn will always offer 4/5000 on a sell what you can basis because they would struggle to sell the empty seats anyway

I bought membership in the end and I got tickets for Sunderland. I treated my dad to a membership too so we can get tickets together and as I figured waiting for members to be able to by an extra ticket would result in certain disappointment.

And I managed through a combination of oversleeping and being busy at work to not attempt to buy the tickets till late in the day. So perhaps I do stand a reasonable chance of getting tickets for many away games. I assume the loyalty system will mean I can't get tickets for united or spurs but I have nothing against that system.

After todays draw, my next question is; can I possibly get tickets for european away games and can I arrange my own travel? I really fancy the trips to Germany and Belgium.

Not been to europe since the ECWC expolits of the mid 90's. Back then I recall the club tried to sell tickets only with approved travel packages. I used an unofficial tour operator but that ended in having tickets in the wrong end of the ground. Ended up having to buy tickets again to get in the Chelsea end.

we do about 15 to 20 games a year, mainly awy in the north or midlands with the odd home game and the odd fulham /west ham away etc.For northern away games you get higher loyalty points especially in the cup. This means you will get more{much more points} than someone who goes to all the home games but no away games even if they have been to twice as many games as you.Works for me being based in Harrogate and I got all the Man Utd games(only just) and Spurs at home last season.I got Arsenal at home the year before as well.Never been ever to get Arsenal away though.I remember Newcastle in Carling Cup was 7 points last year, and a junior ticket was only £10.I took the hit and purchased the points never intending to travel down to the match..Makes sense to get in touch with other people and use each others memberships

You'll be fine getting tickets. Just make sure you're in the online queue at 7 to get the tickets and you'll have no problem.

Incidentally, there's sometimes a glitch in the system where it might say sold out when in fact tickets are still going. I had this problem with Stoke but got them in the end. What I mean by this is that the link in the ticket portal (chelsea's ticket server thing u log into with ur member no. etc) may say sold out and therefore not work, whereas if u go the "ticket news" and click the buy online link by the Sunderland game there, that one may work instead.

This only happened to me once but I'm just warning u not to panic if there's a glitch!

Can I also ask how the club decides who gets the better seats at away games? Loyalty points I suppose?

There are about 700 people in the Away S/Ticket scheme this season, they are supposed to get the best available seats based on a preference they state when making their applications - From personal experience the club quite frequently don't do their homework and you get no better than others.

The rest are sold by block and it's pot-luck as to what seat you get - That's my understanding, as told to me by the box-office.
