What will he do after his year off?

Where can he go and have players so perfectly suited to his philosophy? Pep and Barca are one, from the youth to the top. He'll never find that anywhere else.

With all do respect to Pep (and unlike many of his players, I really do respect him) I hope we stay well clear and stick with RDM like we have. I dont want another Grant for Scolari disaster.

Anybody else beginning to think that we drove a stake through the heart of Barca the other night? :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Rijkaard's Barca looked unbeatable at times (though nowhere near THIS good) a few years ago, and then they suddenly fell apart overnight. History repeating?

Not while Messi can play. They have some problems at the back and they need a large man to knock in some headers every once in a while. But I can't help feeling that Barca are just burned-out from their success. The pressure on them was overwhelming and the rewards from winning weren't enough to overcome it. I think losing like this will be mentally refreshing and give them new motivation for next season.

Losing Pep is a wildcard, though. Hard to predict what effect the new manager will have.

Guardiola's been amazing for Barcelona. 4 years and about 100 trophies. Now he loses the la liga to a multimillion Real with Jose and to us at CL semifinal and suddenly he is bad. Has to be motivation thing.

If he leaves Barca the rumours for him to come to Chelsea will start immediately. Have already started actually...

Personally I think it would be a risk. I still rate AVB and he'd do great job at Barcelona for example. The squad is what it is. Ours is a fighting defending side. AVB did everything to change that but couldn't. Carlo got the goals from the team but we still were the defending side. If Pep came here he'd had no chance of changing us from this to Barca-type. AVB would have succeeded if it is possible, I'm sure of it. The change would need a complete overhaul of the squad. No Lampard, Terry, Drogba or Essien. We have some players who could do that but the core is what it is.

I hope we stick with DiMatteo and hire Zola to help him. We could use the maestro's attacking ideas.

Guardiola is the modern type, smart, cool and succesful as is AVB so I don't think Pep is our man.
