I do indeed, Krc!  Your English is becoming far more fluent.  Dein Englisch wird viel fliessender?  (is that correct?)

 

What I meant about the umlaut is that I can't find it on my keyboard.  I know which words need the umlaut.  But my keyboard is all set up for French accents

In this International Football thread is everything possible with or without umlaut.

You can and may use your French accents for Flemisch, Italian or Spanish expressions. Even for Danish.

 

Nothing is unrealistic.

Lesson 14 - Do I have to open my suitcase, sir?

English for al seasons.

 

The Shed Enders and Spudulike are standing in a long queue of people waiting in the embarkation hall at Dover Harbour. They want to catch the 10.30 boat to Ostend. Uno is carrying two suitcases, The Mod a handbag and a umbrella; he (or she) is wearing a blue raincoat. Spudulike is holding their passports in his right hand. In the hall there are six officers sitting at a desk checking the passports. When Spudulike arrives at the entrance to the office, a policeman gives him some white cards.

 

Policeman: These are your embarkation cards, sir. You have to fill them in, please.

Spudulike: Thank you! Do the rest have to fill in cards too?

Policeman: They do, sir.

Spudulike (to Moi): I don't have a pen.

Uno: You can have mine, Spudulike. Here it is.

Spudulike: Take this card, Uno. You can fill in yours, can't you?

Uno: Of course, I can. Do I have to sign it too?

Moi: Yes! Of course you do. You know the adress in Belgium, don't you? Cristal Arena, Stadionplein, 3600 Genk. You have to write it down here. Don't forget your passport number. Here it is.

Moi: Can The Mod have his (hers) too, cherie, for the number?

(The Mod doesn't talk much.)

Spudulike: Here is yours, Mod. Do you have the number? All right! Give it back to me, please. We have to show our passports to the officer now.

Officer: Passports, please.

Spudulike: Here are ours, all together. This is mine and that is The Mod's.

Officer: And that is Uno's, isn't it?

Spudulike: Yes, that's his.

Officer (looking at their faces): That's all right, sir. You can go on.

Uno (carrying the suitcases): Do I have to open the suitcases, sir?

Officer: No, you don't. You do that at the Belgian customs.

Spudulike: You don't have to open your suitcases when you leave a country, Uno. Only when you enter one.

 

 

 

(Pffffffffffffffff. Still 40 more minutes.)

The sea was calm. The sun is shining. Chelsea has won in Man. C. The Shed Enders and Spudulike are in an atmosphere of happiness.

 

The Mod (the names and their characters in the do I have to open my suitcase, sir story are coincidental): Bonjour, Monsieur!

Moi: The Belgians don't speak French in Ostend, Mod. They speak Flemisch.

Moi: And she's a girl, not a monsieur.

Het Oostends meisje (friendly): Can I help you?

Spudulike: Yes, please. We're visitors from the UK. And we're going to Krc-fan. Do you know him?

Moi: He has invited us in Genk. To watch his club.

Het Oostends meisje: Oeps. That is not easy. There are a lot of Krc-fans' in Belgium. Genk is the most sympathetic football team in Belgium, you know? They have fans everywhere. Just like Tottenham in the UK. It will be difficult to find him.

 

Uno: Don't like the Belgians. They smell and drink only beer. Stupid Belgians. I only know Tintin and ...

Spudulike: René Magritte, Rubens, Toots Tielemans.

Moi: Jacques Brel.

Uno: Hercule Poirot.

(Everybody's laughing.)

Uno: Don't like Genk either. They have a funny name. I want to go home!

 

Spudulike: What the f...! Look there. On 'het terrasje'! Is that Goose, and Mbh and Teritus?

Moi: Hey guys! What a surprise! What are you doing here?

    I have no idea what "Flak" is, Krc!  I thought it was anti-aircraft equipment!  The youngsters have probably invented a totally different meaning for it.

    Flak isn't a thing, he's a person Moi.

     

     

    Let's see a photo of him, then!  I am still clueless here!
