All-Time Chelsea Players Draft Game

Featured Replies

Excellent, just barak and Chelsea left now if I haven't missed anything.

Trying to Pm ya, any way, have some stuff on, sorry not had a chance to sit down at the computer, will be with you for Sunday. Sorry for the delay

Firstly sorry for the time taken to get this up. Have had a lot on past few days but had the time now.

So let's see.

Formation.

I've opted for a slightly unorthodox 4-3-3 but because of the players in the team who boast many attributes in different positions. The formation will be flexible sometimes becoming a 4-2-3-1 and if needed even a 4-4-2 when defending.

Keeper.

Given in between the sticks his shot stopping ability alone is reason enough for him to warrant his place. Helped Newcastle qualify for Europe a few times and was part of squads that finished runners up in the Fa Cup.

Defence.

Vidic and Kompany are two of the best central defenders the premier league has seen and will be for a long time. Vidic will marshall the back four and dictate from a deeper position acting as cover for anything that somehow finds its way through the defence which is very unlikely. Kompany will act as more of a ball playing defender closing down and applying pressure while having the ability to push forward with the ball after retrieval. Now to the full backs. Firstly Lee Dixon Arsenal legend with reason and one of the best right backs in the league's history. He has over 600 apps and almost 30 goals which is pretty impressive. Started his career as a winger so is more than capable of attacking and pushing forward to support. Same applies for Ashley Cole on the left side. The best left back in the world for a long time. Like Dixon equally adapted to be both a defensive presence and an attacking presence.

Midfield.

I have my two metronomes who really need no description. My centre backs will play the ball in to either Scholes or Alonso who will both be sitting and operating from deep spraying passes and dictating the tempo of the game. When attacking they can play either shortpasses and opt for a slower build up or pick out the marauding runs of Cole and Dixon on the flanks. Both have the ability to score from long range so that is another weapon in the team's arsenal. Both would be effective in screening the defence and neither is shy of their defensive work. Operating in front of the two pacesetters will be Y. Toure who is another player who lit up the premier league he will have the license to bomb forward and support attacks and also will track back when needed. His close control and quick 1-2 passing will allow him to be a threat in the no.10 position when needed but his physicality and presence will suit him just as much in the central midfield role. And just like Alonso and scholes is more than capable of scoring from distance.

Attackers.

on the right will be David Beckham who will be using his pinpoint passing and crossing to pick out his attacking teammates with drilled in low crosses and dinked passes to the opposite flank where Tevez will be waiting to cut in and shoot. Tevez will be on the left side of the three up front and will predominantly cut in but as seen in his time in the league he is a very hard working and tenacious forward so expect to him be all over the pitch popping up and causing problems. Up front spearheading the team is none other than Robbie Fowler nicknamed God by the kop end. You can't get a nickname like that without reason the prodigal son will be causing havoc for opposition defences with his smart movement and trickery before using that wizards left foot to pick out a spot in the net. He is more than capable of drifting out wide to pick up the ball and even dropping deep. With Tevez and Fowler interchanging defences will be bamboozled.

Bench.

Richards for cover at both Right back and centre back coming on when needed to shut out games and even when chasing in order to revert to a back three late in trailing games which I doubt. Owen arguably could be in the first team but I think he is better suited to coming on later in a game against tired legs which he will expose with searing pace and clinical finishing. Yeboah is a wildcard of sorts as his sheer unpredictability will allow him opportunities to capitalise late in games by coming up with special moments or just taking digs from anywhere.

Ok - below is my write up, but if we could please hold until I can post a fancy formation I would be most greatfull.

My team is built on power and pace with enough guile to open up any defense.

I was sure to pick a keeper from an era where actually catching the ball from a cross was a routine duty, before the league was invaded by the punch brigade.  A keeper who didn’t pary the ball back out 5 yards in front of him, he either held the ball or made sure it went out of harm’s way.

But really, the quality of my keeper is completely irrelevant because no one is getting near him. I have picked an obtuse back 4 and quite deliberately all defensively minded! We aren’t going to have any of that fancy bringing the ball out ala side show bob style. The job of these boys is to defend and get rid.

Stam is a man mountain, quick, strong a leader and a winner, the one man the Alex Ferguson publicly regretted selling , Next to him I’ve opted for Keown, A man that perhaps hates to lose more then he loves to win. Again, strong, commanding, and an infamous invincible, (and had leaman behind him which made it all the more impressive)

At fullback, Neville and Pearce, are as solid as they come, Bourn winners! And with the looks in my back line no one is going to hesitate to put there face in the way of driving ball if needed.

We are going to start out with a 4 across the middle of the park with the pure speed of the Dutch flyers on the wings, I wouldn’t want to be a fullback up against these two. I actually imagine a lot of fullbacks feigning injury.

In the middle Matic will be marshaling and sitting in front of the defense, he has proven over the past season and half that there isn’t much he can’t handle, basically owning Yaya Toure time and time again. Next to him Modric will be playing the role he currently does so well for madrid, spraying the ball about, finding the runners and cleaning up any mess. My players will know if they can’t find space, this man will be able to.  Playing just in front of the midfield and just of the front man will be suarez, love him or hate him the guy finds space, has tremendous ability and will always get goals… but if he’s struggling for space it means that the Didier “Big game” Drogba will be free, and no defense want’s that .

Basically, I just don’t see how any defense deals with that pace and power of my team going forward and no one is bullying my defenders.

If I need to be flexible I can be, Ince can come in to for a midfield 3 if we need a bit more stability in the center, and to beef it up a bit. Bold is every bit as good a center back as Keown  and Ginola is not here to make up the numbers, he could easily be a starter and he will appear to make an impact.

The other huge quality for my team is “BALLS”! I have big game players, who don’t crumble mentally when the chips out down. Of my outfield 14 available, 12 have won a major European league and 6 have won the Champions League and let’s not forget, that in the big occasion, is there a better striker on the planet then a prime Drogba when you need a big goal.
