Does anyone have a list of Chelsea's five subs for the 1971 European Cup Winners Cup Final replay?

The five for the first match I believe were: Phillips, Mulligan, Smethurst, Baldwin and Hinton.

Tommy Baldwin replaced the injured John Hollins in the starting line up for the replay. Smethurst came on for Osgood around 75 mins. I presume 3 of the other 4 subs were again Phillips, Mulligan and Hinton but who was the fifth?

Also, as Hollins missed out on the replay did he also miss out on a winners medal?

I didn't even realise we had 5 subs in Europe back then. Only one was allowed in our football, and that only came in in the mod 60s. Pretty sure subs weren't around for the 1966 world cup final.

I've checked a couple of websites (below) and it seems we only had two subs for each game.

The replay was shown on Chelsea TV a couple of weeks ago and Hollins was part of the commentary team. Not sure if he collected a medal or not. Backbiter, In 1966, only the winners received medals. Although, subs and staff received medals many years latter.

Thanks for the replies.

The 2 from 5 sub rules was in place in European competition by 1970-71, unlike domestic games where only one sub could be named/used.

  • 1 month later...

There were only two subs per game, not two from five. The Wednesday game was Paddy & Tommy, then on the Friday it was Paddy & Derek.
