February 16, 20215 yr A tweet link but a good read. I can’t be bothered to do a full comment. As a financial by profession I know how much work it is to do properly. But I thought some might be interested. Long story short player sales were great. obviously we did brilliantly selling hazard at the right time, and got better money for morata than we might have.
February 17, 20215 yr Yes, fascinating stuff. Amazing that we've banked some half a billion in player sales in recent years - far more than any other club. I assumed Liverpool had taken in more, due to the absurdly overpriced Coutinho, Solanke and Brewster, so I was pleased to see that wasn't the case. What is interesting is how we have weathered the pandemic better than our rivals, by virtue of our matchday income being a smaller proportion of our turnover. This is the paradoxical benefit of having a smaller capacity, and shows how smart it was in hindsight not to go for the redevelopment of SB. I hope it does go ahead in time, as the plans look fantastic, but RA's hesitancy is proving very prudent from a financial point of view.
February 17, 20215 yr Yep our business model appears to be player sales Marina and her team seem to be able to get the most of clubs credit to her and team they know how to sell a player. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a good price for Kepa when we sell him.
