mad_mac
Title says it all folks, I think that there is too much turmoil in the premiership now, and we have gotten off to such a bad start that the premiership dream is over. As I have said before, I can't remember a time where a manager is changed mid season (ok this si still the starts) and the new one has come in and won. I also think, as personified with Porto, that a knock out competition can result in a few teams having big games on the night, and winning the whole thing. So, is this the only cup we have a chance of this season? And do you thin we will pull a liverpool, and save all our resources to make sure that we have the strongest squad possible for each of the CL games at teh expense of all other competitions? Lofty
Without having a clue how Hull are doing - normally I'd check out their form and so on, but with so much going on over the last few days i haven't bothered - but even so, am I the only one who actually considers it a possibility that we could lose? Put it this way, how long is it since we scored a league goal? There was Sheva's goal against Rosenborg, and a penalty at Liverpool ... goalscoring is a major, major problem even against lesser opposition. I agree though, we can forget about the Premiership. If things do pick up, it'll be too late. Unlike some people I'm not convinced we'll get anywhere near the Champions League places. The Champions League on the other hand .. well for starters it depends on the next couple of results; depends how long before a proper manager is appointed. Back to the League. Taking it to it's logically ultra-pessimistic conclusion, we would do well not to be involved in a relegation battle. Think I'm kidding?

We finish 5th in the premiership, and win the Champions League. Liverpool finish 4th, so therefore lose their place to us. I would laugh my ass off at them getting a taste of their own medicine

I would laugh my ass off at them getting a taste of their own medicine Nah Liverpool would still get the place...because they're Liverpool. This could actually be a chance for us to win it this year. Barca aside, the teams from the major leagues who do well in the CL usually have relatively poor domestic seasons, Liverpool and Milan this year, Arsenal the year before and then the Scousers again. In Jose's 3 seasons we were always competing on several fronts, so we couldn't just copy Tubby and rest half of our first team every week. But if we get knocked out of the title race early (if we aren't out already), being able to concentrate solely on this will work to our advantage.
