Am I the only person who thinks that our captain needs to be protected from himself?

Over the last 12 months he has had to endure back surgery and a brutal kick to the head and has then played and trained with pain killing injections on a regular basis to overcome a broken foot. His form has not been as dominating (hardly surprising) and now he has a depressed fracture of his cheekbone and wants to play with a protective mask 3 days after surgery!!!

I know that the club is having a bad time and that he is the leader but at the same time we have probably ruled ourselves out of contention for major honours by appointing Grant and now the club should be thinking about protecting one of our major assets.

If it was up to me JT would not play again until his foot, cheek and back are all properly healed, even if it means him missing 2 months football.

exactly what i think- it must almost be intimidating for the manager to drop/rest him because he has such a big influence and the boss needs JT's support.. I think the rest lamps has had will be a blessing and i was hoping the same for JT.

In a way I agree that he needs to get some rest. Playing with injuries isn't good for him.

On the other hand him playing injured and being the iron man he is really boosts the team and us supporters.

I've always liked JT but after last season with all the stuff he went through and still continued to play I'm almost in love with the guy. I adore him.

Also if he wants to play he should get to play. I don't think anyone can stop him. If Grant does JT will have his head for breakfast.

^^^

that's what he's going to look like tomorow.

we saw what happened last year when Terry was out for what 2 games or something, we suffered greatly. I think plain and simple, Terry - Lampard - and Cech are needed all at once for us to win. I know Essien, Drogba...etc. are important too, but really we don't win when 1 of three are out. We may tie, but we won't win. By the way, Lampard will not be playing tomorrow.

But i understand what your saying about making him rest, really he should have been rested for the summer and he shouldn't have played during the pre-season in the US. Then maybe he'd be in better condition.

I know I shouldn't read it but I did. JT is getting a right old pasting on Football365 over the last week or so.

Slow, thug, shouldn't play injured, not good enough blah blah blah...In the most part scousers and mancs

I just think t**ts don't have their "fat frank" to have a go at at the moment so turned there attention on to JT.

f365 is a decent website, but pretty anti-chelsea and sarah winterburn, who wrote the piece is clueless-

there was a podcast after the CL final where she first discussed how owen was rubbish for being "only a goalscorer" and how "modern football" has moved on and why he's finished, literally minutes later praising pippo inzaghi because "at the end of the day you need someone to put the ball in the net" etc..

utterly clueless. funny at times, but they don't really know their stuff.
